To mark the 60th year of Singapore’s independence, Singaporeans can look forward to a host of activities throughout 2025 to celebrate our journey to date and shape the next chapter of the Singapore story.
The theme of SG60 is “Building Our Singapore Together”. This builds on the Forward Singapore exercise, in which Singaporeans affirmed their commitment to a renewed social compact. SG60 aims to celebrate our nation-building journey and reflect on our shared values of multiculturalism, boldness, resilience and openness¹ that have united us and allowed us to prosper against the odds over the past 60 years. It will also be an occasion to rally Singaporeans to build our future Singapore together.
Many major programmes in SG60 speak to these shared values and encourage Singaporeans to reflect, uphold and live out these values. Examples include Chingay, Exercise SG Ready, Singapore World Water Day, Racial & Religious Harmony Month, the Singapore Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, and the World Aquatics Championships – Singapore 2025.
We also hope that SG60 programmes will rally Singaporeans to build our future Singapore together and be platforms to Connect, Contribute and show Care:
(i) Connect Singaporeans with one another
SG60 programmes aim to provide opportunities for meaningful connections, bringing Singaporeans together through shared experiences that transcend age, race, language and religion. Examples include the National Day celebrations, Project Citizens – The First Million, and GetActive! Singapore.
(ii) Contribute to our refreshed social compact under ForwardSG
Many SG60 programmes will offer opportunities for Singaporeans to partner with one another, as well as contribute ideas and co-create solutions to build the Singapore we want in the next chapter of our Singapore story. These include community engagement programmes for the World Aquatics Championships, where volunteers will be activated to help drive some of its activations, as well as engagements such as NYC and PA’s SG60 Youth Engagements and URA’s Draft Master Plan Exhibition. Individuals and organisations can also develop their own programmes and initiatives to celebrate and commemorate this milestone and what it represents.
(iii) Care for Others
SG60 is also an opportunity to show care for and give back to our community. There will be platforms for Singaporeans to donate and volunteer to support those in need, including a new nation-wide giving programme by Community Chest that will be rolled out in 2025. More details will be shared at a later date.
We encourage all Singaporeans to participate in the nation-wide programmes to commemorate our nation-building journey. The programmes will span sectors such as sustainability, sports and digital technology, while reaching diverse groups including youths, families and businesses. They include programmes that are familiar to Singaporeans but organised at a larger scale with new programme elements for SG60. Many corporates and community and ground-up groups are also planning their own efforts to mark SG60 in a meaningful way.
In commemorating SG60 together, we hope that Singaporeans can step forward and take action to make the lives of fellow Singaporeans better, partner with one another and contribute to building a stronger Singapore together.

The first event to count down to SG60, ONE Countdown 2025 will ensure everyone can usher in the new year, with celebrations across the island, including at heartland sites.
Chingay
📅 January to March 2025
This is an annual People’s Parade organised by PA to celebrate Singapore’s multiculturalism. As part of SG60 celebrations, the theme of Chingay 2025 is “JOY” – reflecting on our shared journey/experiences that transcend ethnicity, language and age, in a more festive, people-parade form of performance. One component of it is to leverage on ‘Food’ to bring different groups together; uniting the community, family and nation as we look forward to our shared future. There will also be pre-Parade engagement where there are co-creation opportunities through programmes such as Chingay National Education Programme, PAssionArts x Chingay Community Floats and post-Parade engagement where public can continue to experience Chingay through Chingay@Heartlands celebrations held across the island over subsequent weekends.
Project Citizens – The First Million
Founders’ Memorial’s tribute to the founding generation
📅 April 2025 to March 2026
Project Citizens – The First Million is an initiative of the Founders’ Memorial to capture stories of Singapore’s founding generation of citizens. These stories spark reflection on the values we share as citizens of multicultural Singapore, in our nation’s early nation-building years and into the future. Launched in 2025 as part of SG60 and set to be a permanent feature of the Memorial, Project Citizens – The First Million pays tribute to Singapore’s founding generation of citizens alongside the Memorial’s focus on founding leaders. Project Citizens – The First Million launches with 3 initiatives:
- Senior Engagement Programme (Apr 2025 to Mar 2026) gathers stories from seniors through structured activities and intergenerational conversations with volunteers, honouring their contributions to nation-building and encouraging reflection on values they exemplified. The programme will take place at various locations across Singapore in partnership with community organisations.
- Founders’ Memorial pop-up installations island-wide (Apr 2025 to Mar 2026) invites Singaporeans to share their stories and reflect on what it means to be citizens of multicultural Singapore.
- Not Mere Spectators: The Makings of Multicultural Singapore (Oct 2025 to Mar 2026) is an experience held at the National Gallery Singapore that invites participants to reflect on the value of multiculturalism.
Through Project Citizens – The First Million, Singaporeans can continue to shape the content and curation of the Memorial, leading up to its opening in 2028.
