ONE AND ONLY Bicentennial Edition of the Largest Street Performance and Float Parade in Asia to end the Chinatown Chinese New Year Celebrations with a Bang at Chingay 2019 @ Heartlands
Get up close with 10 spectacular floats decked out in elaborate lights and not-to-be-missed international performances for a night of spectacle, entertainment and memories in the bicentennial edition of the Chingay Parade
As one of the much-anticipated programmes of Chinatown Chinese New Year Celebrations 2019, “Celebration of Abundance and Prosperity” (新春大吉福满城 欣欣向荣庆丰年), the streets of New Bridge Road and Eu Tong Sen Street will transform into a dazzling display of 10 beautifully decorated floats and a host of local and international performances that will wow the crowd with their elaborate costumes and stage sets, providing plenty of photo opportunities to capture the night scenes up close.
Out of the 10 floats showcased, four are cultural traditions on display – from a Chinese float featuring an ethereal nymph playing the Pipa to a royal Indian wedding with an elephant centrepiece leading the bride in a lavish Palanquin. Others include floats commissioned by the five CDCs, POSB, PAYM and a Merdeka float reminiscing the collective memory of Singapore in the past to honour the Merdeka and Pioneer Generation.
The highlight of the night takes the shape of two finale floats that are based on a silver-chrome colour scheme. Inspired by Chingay 2019’s theme, Dreams Funtasia, one of the floats will be adorned with masks and butterflies to exude an enigmatic and whimsical feel, complete with performers donning bubble costumes to delight the crowd. The other finale float features intricately-designed DNA structures to symbolise the unique Singapore DNA that has gone through hundreds of years of evolution to make us who we are today.
Not-to-be-missed performances include seven international acts which can only be enjoyed exclusively at Chingay 2019 @ Heartlands. Be wowed by a Face-changing Opera from Sichuan and a Cambodian Masked Dance, not to mention other showstopping acts from Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, South Korea and Lanzhou, China.
Under the bright lights of the floats and thousands of handcrafted lanterns from the Street Light-Up, feast your senses on a rousing display of fireworks and firecrackers to mark the end of Chinatown Chinese New Year Celebrations 2019.
