CHINGAY@HEARTLANDS CELEBRATIONS RETURN TO BRING THE CHINGAY EXPERIENCE TO SIX NEIGHBOURHOODS ACROSS SINGAPORE
Chingay@Heartlands activities and celebrations expected to reach more than 60,000 residents
After a three years hiatus, the Chingay@Heartlands celebrations are finally back! Residents in six island-wide locations will have a variety of exciting experiences and line-up of programmes to enjoy over three weekends in February and March 2023. These Chingay@Heartlands programmes are organised by the various Group Representation Constituencies (GRC) grassroots organisations in partnership with PA community partners.
Bringing residents together through Chingay‘s vibrant spirit of multiculturalism, youthfulness and the showcasing of community arts, these six heartland sites will feature immersive and experiential Chingay programmes to captivate audiences and drive interest and participation in Chingay beyond the 2-day parade on 3 & 4 February.
Key highlights at Chingay@Heartlands 2023 include:
a. Large Floats Caravan (all sites): Residents are in for a visual treat as the large iconic Chingay Parade 2023 Floats travel through 6 neighbourhoods – East Coast, Tampines, Chua Chu Kang, Nee Soon, Ang Mo Kio and Tanjong Pagar. Welcome and wave as the colourful and vibrant floats pass by your estate and block! Head down to the Chingay@Heartlands celebration sites for photography opportunities with these dazzling Chingay Floats and float performers.
b. Chingay Truncated Show (all sites): Be mesmerised by a 45-minute stage show featuring the various multicultural and energetic acts from Chingay Parade 2023! Rabbits from Bunny Moon will join us in a fun-filled showtime, which includes multi-ethnic performances by our community talents, an upbeat piloxing segment, and get ready to dance to the beat as Chingay’s very own Community Star 2023 – ‘The Lesslars’ belts out their original composition, titled ‘Shine Like A Star’.
c. Chingay Mini Floats Display (all sites): Catch the display of the innovative Chingay Mini Floats, co-created by residents from the different GRCs and their community artists, featuring their hopes and aspirations for future editions of Chingay.
d. Roving Chingay Performers (selected Chingay@Heartlands sites): Featuring the Chingay crowd favourites, such as the popular God of Fortune, Chingay stilts walkers, and the beautiful Chingay performers in their multi-ethnic costumes, your selfies or wefies with them will look incredible. So get up close, whip out your cameras and snap away with the Chingay roving performers!
e. Local Flavour Programmes and Carnivals (selected Chingay@Heartlands sites): Bring along your family, friends and neighbours to enjoy the variety of local flavour programmes installed at the respective heartland carnivals. Expect exhilarating showcases by community-based drumming, dragon and lion dance groups, cultural programmes such as inter-ethnic music & dance performances, hands-on arts booths, firecrackers, fireworks and pyrotechnic firing, and more.
Chingay@East Coast is the first site to kick off the first heartlands celebrations this weekend. In conjunction with the Chingay@Heartlands, East Coast GRC will be launching a new scheme of 100 foldable and user-friendly motorised wheelchairs approved by Land Transport Authority, as a new initiative under East Coast Cares. This aims to bring greater accessibility and convenience to caregivers of selected groups of seniors who meet the eligibility criteria within East Coast. It also cultivates the spirit of giving since the COVID-19 pandemic. Advisers will be presenting the motorised wheelchairs to the seniors and their caregivers during the launch at Siglap Community Club.
The Chingay Large Floats will make their appearance at five stations around East Coast GRC. Starting from the Open Field outside Eastpoint Mall, they will make three pitstops en route before finally parking at Open Field in front of Blk 19 Bedok South Road. Residents will be able to catch these grand floats as they rove around the East Coast GRC neighbourhoods, as well as take pictures with these Chingay floats and the float performers at each station.
Revellers at Chingay@East Coast can also look forward to traditional lion dances with acrobatic stunts on high pedestals, vibrant community drumming, dance performance by My First Skool, while indulging in sweet treats of popcorn and candy floss. To end on a high note, fireworks will be set off as the finale to Chingay@East Coast heartland celebrations.
