Online Events to Empower Women with Unsupported Pregnancies: Public’s Social Sharing Count as Donation

Founded in 2018, Safe Place is an initiative to empower women with unsupported pregnancies by providing personal counselling, guidance on critical life skills, temporary accommodation and referral to other support partners. To date, the dedicated team of Safe Place has helped about 190 women.

Offering all services to mothers-to-be under their care without any charges, Safe Place is fully funded by donors and supporters who share the same vision. Meanwhile, as our society navigates through this trying time, donations from the public – regardless in the form of financial support or daily necessities – are now more crucial than ever for Safe Place to reach out to more women in need.

The public who are interested to show support for this inspiring initiative will soon have additional means to do so through a series of upcoming online events, organised by Safe Place in collaboration with local confinement food catering service, Tian Wei Signature.

“Last year alone, the number of mothers we served increased by almost 30% compared to the previous year. This tells us just how much new mothers see good nutrition as an essential part of their postpartum recovery, and we want to provide it as our support to the strong and determined mothers at Safe Place,” the representative of Tian Wei Signature shared.

To support Safe Place’s empowering cause, Tian Wei Signature is inviting the public to engage with their upcoming “Online Donation Drive” campaign. For every person who shares Tian Wei Signature’s campaign social media post, the confinement food catering service provider will donate $5 to Safe Place in the form of confinement meals. This interactive donation campaign will kick-start on 15th May 2021 and carry on for a duration of one month until 15th June 2021.

Meanwhile, the online campaign will also be featuring a public live broadcast on the social media platform Instagram, which will be held on Tian Wei Signature’s official Instagram page on 22nd May 2021, at 3.30pm. Participants of this live broadcast can learn how to support women and families in need with cash donation, and also look forward to learning useful knowledge on the importance of postpartum nutrition, along with a confinement food tasting session.

1. What social media will the campaign post be on? Instagram or Facebook?

The “Online Donation Drive” campaign will be posted on both Tian Wei Signature’s official Instagram and Facebook page, and social shares on both platform will be counted as donations.

2. Will Tian Wei Signature be giving $5 vouchers to Safe Place, or will they be giving confinement meals? How does that part of the initiative work, since confinement meals are sure to be more than $5 each.

After the “Online Donation Drive” ends, we will convert the number of social shares to $5 per share, and we will donate the total amount to Safe Place in the form of confinement meals. The confinement meals will be served to the mothers in need at Safe Place on demand.

3. In the press release it was stated that there was an increase of almost 30% in terms of the no of confinement meals prepared last year compared to the previous year — could we get a spokesperson from Tian Wei to explain if they know why this is the case?

We think the increase may be due to the Covid-19 lockdown last year. There was a low supply of confinement nannies and many families with newborns were unable to get a confinement nanny. However, they still view confinement food as an important element to support their postpartum recovery, which led them to opt for a confinement meal catering service like Tian Wei Signature to make sure they are properly nourished to recover from childbirth.

4. Additionally, could we also get statistics on the number of confinement meals that Tian Wei Signature has provided this year? Has the demand increased from last year?

Compared to 1 January to 30 April in 2020, the number of customers that we served during the same period of time this year decreased around 4.25%. We think the decrease might be because the supply of confinement nannies has resumed to normal after Singapore started accepting the entry of work pass holders from Malaysia again, not to mention there are now more freelance confinement nannies in the market as well. However, since the decrease is not significant, it tells us that many new parents in Singapore actually trust our confinement food delivery service as their support during the postpartum period.
