The September school holidays bring a welcome change of pace: fewer rushed mornings, more family outings and a little more time for the appointments that keep slipping down the list.

For parents of children who wear spectacles, it is also a good moment to ask whether those lenses are doing more than simply making distant objects clear.

This is where the newly launched MiYOSMART iQTF comes in. HOYA Lens’ most advanced myopia management spectacle lens to date builds on established D.I.M.S. Technology with a new Triple Enhanced Design developed to offer greater myopia control effectiveness.

When Clear Vision Is Only Part of the Picture

A new pair of spectacles can make the classroom board sharp again, but clear vision does not always mean myopia has stopped progressing. Regular single-vision lenses correct blurry distance vision, but they are not designed to manage the excessive eye growth associated with worsening myopia.

MiYOSMART iQTF is designed to do both. Its clear central zone corrects the prescription, while the surrounding treatment zone delivers a myopic defocus signal intended to control myopia progression.

What Is New About MiYOSMART iQTF?

MiYOSMART iQTF introduces D.I.M.S. Technology with Triple Enhanced Design, or DIMS TED.

The upgrade has three key elements:

Activated: Defocus segments are positioned closer to the geometric center of the lens. They are intended to continuously activate a near-peripheral area of the retina that responds strongly to myopic defocus signals. HOYA refers to this area as the “Smart Zone”.†

Powerful: A higher defocus power delivers a stronger myopic defocus signal.

Extended: A larger treatment zone with more defocus segments provides more extensive coverage of a child’s peripheral visual field, including when larger frames are chosen.

Put simply, these enhancements allow the lens to deliver its myopia control signal across more of the field of vision as children learn, play and explore.

A Strong First 12 Months

MiYOSMART iQTF was evaluated in a 12-month randomised controlled clinical trial involving myopic children aged 4 to 12 years.¹,²

Findings showed that 9 out of 10 children wearing MiYOSMART iQTF had no clinically relevant myopia progression* during their first 12 months of wear. The group also recorded minimal eye growth on average over the same period.¹,²

Results can vary according to age and other characteristics at the start of treatment. Even so, these are the strongest clinical results reported to date for a spectacle lens using D.I.M.S. Technology.¹,²

An eye care practitioner can assess whether MiYOSMART iQTF is suitable and monitor progress through regular follow-up visits.

Made to Keep Up With Childhood

School bags get tossed aside, fingerprints appear within minutes and outdoor play rarely stays tidy. Children need spectacles that can keep up with real life.

MiYOSMART iQTF is thin, light and impact-resistant. Its optimised aspherical backside design improves visual clarity and reduces edge thickness by up to 10% compared with a standard spectacle lens.³

MiYOSMART iQTF also introduces S.P.A.R.K., HOYA Lens’ advanced protective coating developed for MiYOSMART iQTF spectacle lenses. S.P.A.R.K. stands for Scratch resistant, Protection, Advanced technologies and benefits, and Ready for Kids, reflecting a coating designed with the demands of children’s everyday wear in mind.

The integrated multi-layered coating provides:

  • Enhanced scratch resistance
  • Resistance to fingerprints, dust and water
  • Long-lasting easy-clean performance
  • High light transmission for clear, comfortable vision
  • Protection against harmful UV rays

Together, these features make the lenses easier for children to wear, clean and enjoy throughout the day.

Four Options for Different Routines

From classroom screen time to weekend sports, every child’s routine is different. MiYOSMART iQTF is available in four options:

  • Clear
  • Clear with HOYA Full Control Coating
  • Chameleon Photochromic
  • Chameleon Photochromic with HOYA Full Control Coating

Chameleon Photochromic lenses darken outdoors and return to a clear state indoors. That means less fuss when children move from an indoor activity to an afternoon outdoors.

HOYA Full Control Coating provides additional comfort in a digital world. Its Hi-Vision Anti-Bacterial component reduces bacterial growth on the lens surface, while the coating also supports UV protection, glare reduction and easier cleaning. An eye care practitioner can recommend an option based on prescription, frame choice and daily activities.

Make Eye Care Part of the Holiday Checklist

A myopia management lens is only one part of looking after young eyes. During the holidays, encourage more outdoor play, regular breaks from prolonged near work and suitable lighting for reading or screen time.

Wondering what different degrees of myopia may look like? Try the HOYA Lens myopia simulator for a clearer picture. Parents can also visit the MiYOSMART testimonial website to hear how other families have experienced and enjoyed MiYOSMART in everyday life.

The September break is a timely chance to check whether anything has changed in your child’s vision and whether their current lenses are addressing both clear sight and myopia progression.
