Whether you are bottle feeding with infant formula or with expressed breast milk, it is recommended to sterilize your baby bottles before use, for at least the first 12 months of your baby’s life.

How to Sterilize Your Baby's Bottles Combi Sterilizer

How to clean and sterilize baby’s bottles

The whole process to clean your baby’s bottles has three steps: wash, sterilize and dry.

Step 1: Wash your hands with soap and water.

Step 2: Wash all bottles and bottle parts with soap, and rinse thoroughly.

Step 3: After washing, it’s time to sterilize.

There are several methods to sterilize your baby’s bottles.

  • Electric Sterilizer

Most electric sterilizers not only kill germs and bacteria, they also come with drying functions.

  • Microwave Steam Sterilizer

You will need a microwave for such sterilizers. Add water in the sterilizer and put it in your microwave. How long you put the sterilizer in depends on the wattage of your microwave.

  • Boiling water

You can sterilize the cleaned bottles and bottle parts in a pot of water at a rolling boil. Make sure that the water completely covers the bottle equipment.

Drying

Once all the parts have been sterilized, remove all the parts from the water or sterilizer with forceps or tongs that also have been sterilized. Place the bottles and other parts on a sterilized shelf to air dry. Once dry, store them in a sanitized, closed container.

Reminder: Always wash your hands thoroughly before touching equipment that has been sterilized.
