Stress affects the physical, emotional and mental aspects of a person. It primarily comes from the body’s response to environmental demands and the events that happen within our surroundings. Although we need eustress (healthy stress) in our lives, having excessive and unnecessary stress can be detrimental to our physical and mental well-being. Parents have higher stress levels, as they need to juggle more roles and responsibilities simultaneously, as compared to non-parents. Working mothers, for instance, are expected to keep up with their home responsibilities and career.

Ways to Conquer Stress
1. Exercise
Exercising has always been the key to health and fitness. It will help to take away some of the tensions in your mind and body. Exercise also produces endorphins, which are known as happy hormones. A simple physical activity such as jogging will be a great way to start your day on a positive note.
2. A healthy diet
A proper diet provides you with the essential nutrients for your body, so that you can face everyday challenges with vigor and strength. Your physical strength also affects your mental strength. One will feel more vulnerable to stress when the body is physically weak or unwell.
3. Sleep well
Sleep deprivation causes irritability and dulls your concentration. Ensure that you have ample sleep (at least 6 – 8 hours) after a long day’s work.
4. Laugh it out
Laughter helps to relieve your stress and anxiety as it increases the blood flow in the body.
5. Deep breathing
Breathing in and out deeply especially when at the brink of a stressful situation is effective as helps to calm the body. Alternative nostril breathing is also one of the most popular and simplest means of breathing exercises.
6. Get some time out
Escape from your work environment once in a while and take a break. Being in a new environment also allows you to see things from a different perspective. So whenever you feel irritated, weak, distracted or moody, be mindful that it could be your life stressors at work. Find some ways to curb and let go of theses stressors. Having a happy and positive outlook towards life will also help in your battle with stress and anxiety.
