As part of its 30th anniversary celebrations, the National Library Board (NLB) today opened Singapore’s first-ever Star Wars Pop-up Library at Changi Airport Terminal 3, bringing the galaxy far, far away closer to home. The collection features stories from one of pop culture’s most enduring franchises, catering to readers of all ages, from young Padawans to Jedi Masters.

Located on Level 2 near the Skytrain and linkbridge to Jewel, the pop-up will run from 6 August 2025 to 24 January 2026, 10am to 10pm daily, in collaboration with Disney and with support from Changi Airport Group. The opening of the Star Wars Pop-Up Library is part of NLB’s ongoing efforts to bring experience and resources beyond its premises through Nodes, advancing NLB’s LAB25 vision of building a vibrant Learning Marketplace. This Star Wars-inspired pop-up library houses a physical collection of over 2,000 Star Wars books, featuring 380 unique titles specially picked by NLB librarians. This includes titles such as the Star Wars: Darth Vader comic series; Star Wars: The Mandalorian: The Manga series; Star Wars: The High Republic junior novel series; the Thrawn: Ascendancy trilogy novels, and more.

Patrons can immerse themselves in the Star Wars galaxy through a series of engaging activities at the pop-up library. An interactive zone features a personality quiz where patrons can discover which Star Wars Jedi they most resemble, alongside a trivia challenge that puts their Star Wars knowledge to the test. Digital screens in the library showcase iconic backdrops from the franchise, creating perfect photo opportunities for fans.

Star Wars is a global phenomenon that brings together millions of fans of all ages through its exciting stories of heroes, villains, and adventure. Its popularity and familiar characters make it an ideal gateway to encourage reading through its collection of novels, comics and associated literature that continue to captivate both seasoned fans and newcomers alike.

NLB is also piloting an automated book retrieval and return system at the Star Wars Pop-Up Library. With the automated book retrieval system, patrons can select the titles through a touch-screen kiosk, and a robotic arm would locate and transport the selected items to the collection point for easy pickup. The robotic arm also handles book returns and shelving operations, to enable this library to offer a book return service only for books borrowed from this location, and to function largely autonomously. As with all NLB loans, these books can also be returned to any NLB library island-wide.

NLB’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Ng Cher Pong, said: “We have been encouraged by the response to our pop-up libraries over the past two years, which have brought reading and learning closer to where our patrons are. We are happy to collaborate with Disney and are grateful for Changi Airport Group’s support in opening this Star Wars-themed library as part of our NLB30 celebrations. It is a fun way for everyone to learn more about one of the world’s most fabled universe, and to discover the joys of reading.”
