Frasers House Presents the Curator’s Table and the Maker’s Serambi

The new series brings together Singapore’s cultural leaders, creatives and heritage custodians to explore the future of cultural hospitality.

Frasers House, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Singapore, has launched a new cultural programming initiative that celebrates the artisans, makers and creators shaping Kampong Gelam, reinforcing its commitment to connecting guests more meaningfully with the destination. The initiative opens with The Curator’s Table, an intimate evening of conversation examining the intersections of craft, culture and hospitality. It continues through The Maker’s Serambi, a recurring bi-monthly programme that invites local makers into the hotel through curated showcases, retail experiences and hands-on workshops.

Set within the heart of Kampong Gelam, Frasers House occupies a unique place in one of Singapore’s most historically and culturally significant districts. Once a centre of Malay royalty, trade and craftsmanship, Kampong Gelam has long been shaped by generations of artisans, perfumers, artists and independent businesses whose work continues to define the neighbourhood today. While the district has evolved into one of Singapore’s most vibrant creative precincts, its identity remains rooted in the people who preserve and reinterpret its heritage.

As part of The Luxury Collection, the hotel is guided by the belief that every property should serve as a gateway to its destination, offering guests a richer understanding of the place they are visiting through experiences deeply rooted in local culture. Through new initiatives such as The Curator’s Table and The Maker’s Serambi, Frasers House is creating opportunities for guests and the wider community to engage directly with the people whose work continues to shape Kampong Gelam.

Launching The Curator’s Table

The inaugural Curator’s Table on 30 July 2026 brought together General Manager, Klaus Christandl, and creatives whose work is closely connected to the neighbourhood’s heritage and character. They included Johari Kazura of Sifr Aromatics, a third-generation Singaporean perfumer; Oniatta Effendi, founder of Baju by Oniatta and Galeri Tokokita, who is dedicated to reviving the traditional art of batik; and Yip Yew Chong, an artist whose work captures the memories, people and everyday life of Kampong Gelam and Singapore.

They want meaningful experiences that connect them with the people and traditions that define a destination,” said Klaus Christandl, General Manager of Frasers House, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Singapore. “These programmes allow us to celebrate the remarkable individuals who have shaped Kampong Gelam while creating more authentic opportunities for our guests to engage with the neighbourhood.

The Make’s Serambi: A Living House of Craftsmanship

Building on this commitment, Frasers House will launch The Maker’s Serambi, a recurring bi-monthly programme from on the last Friday to Sunday from 12pm to 6pm. Transforming the hotel lobby into a showcase for local craftsmanship, the initiative celebrates the artisans, makers and creators whose work continues to define Kampong Gelam’s creative identity.

Taking place from Thursday to Sunday, 27 to 30 August 2026, the inaugural edition invites guests to meet the makers, discover the stories behind their craft and experience time-honoured techniques first-hand. The programme brings together Sonia Pasupathy of Pasupathy Jewellery, known for her handcrafted silver pieces; textile artist Wang Xiao Ting from A Bright Place, whose founder works with natural dyes derived from plant-based pigments; and Sifr Aromatics, which will present its collection of perfume oils and candles alongside intimate workshops at its booth.

On Friday and Saturday, from 4pm to 4.30pm, A Bright Place will also lead half-hour workshops introducing guests to the traditional processes and philosophy behind plant-based dyeing, offering a closer look at how natural materials are transformed into richly coloured textiles.

Upcoming editions will feature ceramicist Stephanie Zheng of Yun the Potter and leather artisan Maverick Made. Both have been handpicked by one of the programme curators, Eastside, an independent travel publication dedicated to deepening understanding of Asia’s cultures, communities and places. Eastside will work closely with each artisan to develop bespoke pieces exclusively for the programme, building on its earlier collaboration with A Bright Place.

Through The Maker’s Serambi, guests will not only discover handcrafted works but also meet their creators, hear the stories behind their practice and gain a deeper appreciation for the skills, traditions and cultural narratives that continue to shape Kampong Gelam today.
