The Children’s Museum Singapore (CMSG), part of HeritageSG, launches its first-ever children’s book, WonderBot and the Time Travel Capsule. Written and illustrated by local children’s author and illustrator Quek Hong Shin and supported by the National Heritage Board, the book brings Singapore’s heritage and history to life through imaginative storytelling.

The story follows young, bright-eyed Chloe and her time-travelling robot companion, WonderBot, as they journey through Singapore’s past in a bid to return to the present day. Along the way, young readers are introduced to key moments and themes in Singapore’s development – from the transformation of the Singapore River and hawker heritage to cultural traditions and Singapore as a Garden City.
At launch, the publication will be distributed exclusively to preschools, with plans to broaden distribution to public libraries as well. This builds on CMSG’s broader efforts to bring the museum experience to a wider school-going audience, making Singapore’s heritage more accessible and engaging for students.
The book is also available for purchase exclusively at CMSG from 14 March 2026, at $16.90 (inclusive of GST), available while stocks last.

“The launch of WonderBot and the Time Travel Capsule marks an exciting milestone for Children’s Museum Singapore,” said Asmah Alias, Director of Children’s Museum Singapore. “As our first-ever children’s book, it reflects our commitment to extending the museum experience beyond our walls and into classrooms. We believe that heritage should be discovered with a sense of wonder, and through the book, we hope to make Singapore’s stories accessible and engaging for young children in ways that feel joyful and relatable.”
To celebrate this milestone with the wider community, families with young children are invited to attend special interactive storytelling sessions of WonderBot and the Time Travel Capsule at Geylang Serai Heritage Gallery on 15 March 2026. Young readers are invited to imagine, question, and participate along the way as they journey with Chloe and WonderBot through Singapore’s yesteryears. After the storytelling session, families can create a personal time capsule together. Children and parents are encouraged to share stories from their childhood with one another and engage in meaningful conversations that celebrate family heritage.
The book has also been adapted into learning resources for heritage education in preschools and primary schools. From the second half of 2026, a new Teacher’s Resource Kit – consisting of a Big Book version for classroom reading, an A4 file of prompt cards, and a teacher’s guide – will be made available to preschools. Packed with historical photographs of Singapore and guided activities, the resource kit provides educators with ready-to-use resources to support heritage learning and enrich school visits to the permanent galleries at CMSG.
A total of 1,800 Teacher Resource Kits will be distributed to preschools that are participating in projects under the Early Childhood Development Agency’s Start Small Dream Big initiative.
Ms Asmah adds, “Following reading sessions in the classroom, we hope that the book and resource kits will encourage more museum visits from an early age, and eventually translate to greater interest and understanding of our heritage as they grow older.”
WonderBot and the Time Travel Capsule will also be brought to life through an animated video tailored for primary school students from 2027.
