Volvo Cars and The Artground unveiled the new #VolvoExplorers space, an exciting addition to The Artground’s Explore Arts Space – Many Alternative Possibilities. The innovative collaboration showcases Volvo’s commitment to safety and sustainability, bringing these core values to life for young minds through engaging, hands-on activities.

A primary focus of the space is safety, reflecting a key pillar of Volvo’s core DNA. Families will have the unique opportunity to explore the brand’s dedication to safety, with one of the main features showcasing the 3-point seatbelt which was invented by the brand in 1959. The importance of seatbelts is translated through various activities, encouraging children to practice safety habits from young.

Volvo’s commitment to environmental sustainability is also highlighted throughout the interactive exhibition. Children will learn how electric vehicles (EVs), such as the Volvo EX30, help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to a cleaner, greener world. Additionally, with its capability to fully charge in just 28 minutes, it serves as a prime example of how cutting-edge technology and sustainable practices can merge to reduce our carbon footprint.

Arts-Driven Exploration: Where Creativity meets Innovation

Children can become #VolvoExplorers for the day, stepping into the role of designers, builders, and safety inspectors through a series of stations that encourage them to unleash their creativity.

Explorer-Sized Car: The hero feature of #VolvoExplorers is the Explorer-Sized Volvo car, “parked” at an EV charging station. The hero feature is modelled after the Volvo EX30, the smallest yet mighty EV reflecting how the next generation of young minds can achieve great things in the future. This visually striking installation mimics a real-life EV prototype and charging station and is installed with seat belts to further emphasise the importance of seat belts.

Safety Exploration and The Final Assessment: A key feature of the space is the focus on safety. Children can participate in Volvo’s “Safety Check” by exploring safety features such as seatbelts, safety cameras, and car seats. This safety assessment mirrors processes that Volvo cars undergo before hitting the road. Children will check off various safety checkpoints to ensure their prototypes meet Volvo’s high standards for vehicle safety.

A Journey of Sustainability – an interactive magnetic road map wall: Alongside design, the space highlights Volvo’s commitment to sustainability through an interactive magnetic road map wall. Children can use wooden cutouts of Volvo’s 3 model electric vehicles (EVs) – EX30, EX40, and EC40 to explore a road map featuring various green initiatives. This playful, educational tool demonstrates how Volvo’s innovative technologies contribute to a greener future.

Ideation Chalk Wall and Material Shelf: Children can bring their ideas to life by sketching their car designs on the Ideation Chalk Wall and choosing from a variety of materials including textiles, rubber and acrylics. These swatches represent the different materials used in cars, offering children a tangible design experience. Materials that go towards building an eco-friendly Volvo car will also be on display – for children to draw imagination from!

Role-Playing Items: Children can fully immerse themselves in the experience by donning designer aprons and helmets, together with tools, as they role-play the process of designing, assembling, and inspecting their own vehicles using the Explorer-Sized Volvo Car as a larger-scale view of how their design choices, from materials to colours, come together.
