If you haven’t visited City Square Mall in a while, you’re in for a pleasant surprise. The family-friendly favourite has just unveiled a massive S$50 million makeover, and honestly, it looks like they’ve designed it with busy parents and happy kids in mind.

City Square Mall Revamped

Once known as Singapore’s first eco-mall, City Square Mall has officially reopened after a three-phase upgrade, and it’s now positioning itself as a true “community hub.” Here are the top highlights for families.

1. A Dedicated Family Wellness Hub: CONNECT @ City Square Mall

Connect @ City Square Mall

This is arguably the biggest news for parents. The mall has introduced CONNECT @ City Square Mall, a dedicated 15,000 sq ft space housing five social service agencies all under one roof.

Located on Level 4 and Basement 2, this isn’t just an office space. It’s a first-stop resource for families, offering:

  • Counselling and support for children and families.
  • The “Playful Hut” by Kampong Kapor Community Services, a safe space for therapeutic interventions for children who have faced challenging experiences.
  • Programmes like KidSTART and Thriving Families to support children’s development and family wellness.
  • Free mental health talks and parent-child bonding activities.

For parents, this transforms the mall from a shopping spot into a real community support network.

2. New Nature Playgrounds at City Green

Goodbye, generic play areas. Hello, nature-inspired adventures! The adjacent City Green park (Level 1) has been refreshed with two brand new playgrounds. Set within a 49,000 sq ft urban park, these spaces are perfect for letting the kids burn off energy while parents enjoy the enhanced landscaping.

3. More (and Better) Family Dining Options

City Square Mall Gastro Square

We know that hungry kids are no joke. The revamp has added approximately 26,000 sq ft of space, largely dedicated to food and beverage. Highlights include:

  • Gastro Square (Level 4): A massive 24,000 sq ft dining destination featuring international cuisines. Think Chef Vo Quoc (Vietnamese) and Xiao Jiao Tian (Sichuan).
  • New Family Favourites: New spots like The Fat Sparrow and Daydream Desserts are now open.
  • It’s not just about eating; Gastro Square will also host live performances and workshops, making mealtime an experience.

4. Eco-Fun with “Eco Mama”

City Square Mall Eco Mama

Staying true to its green roots, the mall has doubled down on sustainability in a way that engages kids.

  • Meet Eco Mama: The mall’s new adorable mascot – a green globe with a catchy jingle. Kids can even collect a plushie version that doubles as an eco-bag.
  • Eco Stamp Rally: Turn a shopping trip into a treasure hunt! Kids can collect stamps at various eco-features around the mall to learn about sustainability and redeem a gift.
  • New World Play & Records: To celebrate the launch, there are retro carnival games at City Green (until the end of March), and you can check out two new Singapore Book of Records installations: the largest display of sequin art and a massive art piece made from recycled milk bottles.

5. Retail Therapy for the Whole Family

The tenant mix has been refreshed with over 21 unique concepts. Parents can look forward to new lifestyle stores like Foot Tree (specialising in shoes for kids aged 0-10), Giggle Jungle by Yooland, and activity centres like Puzzletopia and Sciencetopia on Level 4.

The Details:

  • Where: 180 Kitchener Road (Above Farrer Park MRT)
  • Why go now: To check out the new playgrounds, visit the CONNECT family wellness centre, and try the new restaurants.

With almost 100% occupancy and a fresh, airy interior design inspired by lily pads, City Square Mall is worth adding back to your weekend rotation. It’s no longer just a mall – it’s a place where the community (and especially families) can truly connect.
