Designed by local artist Aida Sa’ad, WonderGround invites young children into a sensory-rich underground world where play, imagination, and discovery come alive. Transforming the unseen world beneath the soil into an interactive journey, the space invites little explorers to crawl, peek, and uncover hidden underground ecosystems through playful, hands-on experiences, with certain tactile and sensory elements especially engaging for children aged 3 and under.

Through crawling, peeking, and hands-on exploration, they become “burrow buddies” navigating twisting tunnels, root networks, and glittering caverns. Along the way, they are introduced to the interconnected ecosystems beneath the earth, encouraging curiosity, teamwork, observation, and an early understanding of how hidden natural systems sustain life.

Designed with a sensory-led approach, WonderGround draws on the importance of sensory exploration in cognitive and emotional development. Through touch, movement, and spatial exploration, the installation invites children to learn by crawling, navigating, and discovering with their whole bodies. These playful experiences can support curiosity, confidence, coordination, and opportunities for collaborative play in the early years.

A Canvas for Creativity

Beyond being a site for exploration and play, WonderGround is designed with both young audiences and artists in mind. The space provides a platform where artists can experiment, collaborate, and reimagine how arts experiences are created and presented.

Aida is part of a residency programme with Teater Ekamatra, an established Singaporean arts company that spotlights artists of diverse ethnicities. She will also be developing a series of initiatives within WonderGround. Supported by Teater Ekamatra, her work will include baby-focused programmes and a performance experience later in the year. All of these will take place within WonderGround itself, fully immersing young audiences in a hands-on, sensory-rich and imaginative environment.
