Singapore’s PushButton Entertainment, Xi’an Qujiang Cultural Tourism Co., Ltd. [西安曲江文化旅游股份有限公司] and JZBB Pte Ltd come together with Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) to create a new waterfront celebration of heritage, culture and togetherness

The splendour of ancient Chang’an will journey south to the shores of Sentosa this Lunar New Year with THE GREAT TANG: BY THE SEA [盛世圣淘沙 · 唐韵嘉年华], a new cultural celebration that brings the heritage and spirit of the Tang Dynasty into conversation with Singapore’s distinctive Nanyang character. Set on Sentosa, Singapore’s premier island destination where discovery never ends, the celebration adds a new chapter to the island’s rich calendar of cultural and heritage experiences.
Taking place from 22 January to 14 February 2027, the inaugural celebration is developed by Singapore’s PushButton Entertainment Pte Ltd, Xi’an Qujiang Cultural Tourism Co., Ltd. [西安曲江文化旅游股份有限公司] and JZBB Pte Ltd, in partnership with Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC). Drawing on Xi’an’s rich cultural heritage and Singapore’s creative, entertainment and destination capabilities, the partners will reimagine a Tang-inspired Lunar New Year through a contemporary Singapore lens.
At the heart of THE GREAT TANG: BY THE SEA is the spirit of exchange that made Chang’an one of the great cosmopolitan capitals of its time. A meeting point along the Ancient Silk Road, the city was shaped by the movement of people, ideas, music, food, fashion and traditions. Centuries later and further south, Singapore developed its own multicultural character through generations of exchange, giving rise to a distinctly Nanyang identity.
It is where these two stories meet that THE GREAT TANG: BY THE SEA begins.
The collaboration was marked by a signing ceremony at Tang Paradise [大唐芙蓉园] in Xi’an [西安], bringing the partners together around a shared ambition to create a Lunar New Year celebration that honours Chinese heritage at Sentosa over three years from 2027.
“This collaboration gives us the opportunity to create a celebration that draws on Tang heritage while feeling relevant to Singapore,” said Jonathan Chia, Director, PushButton Entertainment. “We want visitors to discover the cultural influences behind the event through experiences they can enjoy together, whether they are familiar with Tang culture or encountering it for the first time.“
Where Chang’an meets Nanyang
Set against Sentosa’s tropical waterfront at Palawan Green – one of three beaches on the island, and surrounded by the island’s lush greenery and natural landscape, THE GREAT TANG: BY THE SEA will transform heritage from something to be observed into something to be experienced. Across the celebration, Tang influences will meet the colours, flavours and cultural character of Nanyang. Heritage will find new expression through food, fashion, entertainment and hands-on experiences, creating a festive world that is inspired by the past but shaped for the families and communities celebrating Lunar New Year in Singapore today.
Visitors can look forward to a broad mix of cultural experiences, carnival games, workshops, dressing-up experiences, food and a cultural and creative market, alongside festive entertainment for different generations.
From discovering cultural traditions through play and craft to dressing up in hanfu, dining and spending time together by the sea, the experience is designed to offer different ways into the celebration. Families encountering Tang culture for the first time can experience it alongside those reconnecting with familiar traditions, while Singapore and Nanyang influences give the festival a character of its own.
More than recreating the world of Chang’an, THE GREAT TANG: BY THE SEA will bring its cultural heritage into Sentosa’s distinctive island setting, where sandy beaches, lush greenery and diverse leisure experiences invite visitors to explore and connect. The festival will add a new dimension to that sense of discovery, bringing Chang’an and Nanyang cultures together for a shared celebration by the sea.
Michael Ma, Assistant Chief Executive (Business & Digital Technology Group), Sentosa Development Corporation said: “THE GREAT TANG: BY THE SEA: Sentosa has always been a place where the world comes together, and this Lunar New Year, we are welcoming a first-in-the-world immersive experience outside of China against the backdrop of our tropical waterfront. For the first time, the magic of Datang Everbright City is will bring the splendour of Chang’an and the warmth of Nanyang together on our shores. We invite everyone to be a part of this festive celebration. From immersing in the cultural experience of festival, zodiac readings to visiting the auspicious goats at Sensoryscape, extend your evening soaking in festival lightings as the night comes alive, and extend the celebrations with a staycation at one of our many on-island hotels to complete the celebration of the Year of the Goat.“
A shared celebration, shaped by cultural exchange
The significance of THE GREAT TANG: BY THE SEA lies not simply in bringing Tang culture to Singapore, but in creating a space where heritage can travel, take on new expressions and find resonance with new audiences. This is in keeping with Sentosa’s identity as an island that has long been a meeting point for diverse peoples, cultures and experiences – from its preserved national monuments and repurposed colonial heritage buildings to its unique and iconic island moments.
Drawing on Xi’an’s history as a meeting point for diverse cultures along the Silk Road and Singapore’s multicultural heritage, the celebration will bring these influences together in a way that remains rooted in the traditions that inspired it, while reflecting the Nanyang identity of the place in which it is being experienced. In doing so, it creates an opportunity for audiences to encounter Chinese culture not as something distant or static, but as a living heritage that continues to evolve through exchange, interpretation and shared experience.

Central to this inspiration is Datang Everbright City [大唐不夜城], Xi’an’s landmark Tang-themed cultural district and one of the city’s best-known night-time attractions. Stretching 2.1 kilometres, the pedestrian district brings Tang culture to life through architecture, performances, food, retail and immersive street experiences, and welcomed more than 86 million visitors to the attraction in Shaanxi, China in 2025.
THE GREAT TANG: BY THE SEA will mark the first time elements of this celebrated Xi’an experience are being brought beyond China, reimagined for Sentosa through a distinctly Singapore and Nanyang lens.

Food will be another expression of the cultural exchange at the heart of the festival, with selected vendors from Xi’an expected to travel to Singapore to introduce visitors to flavours inspired by the city’s renowned Muslim Quarter. Reflecting Xi’an’s rich culinary heritage and centuries of cultural exchange, these offerings will sit alongside familiar Singapore and Southeast Asian favourites, bringing the tastes of Chang’an and Nanyang together at the table. Halal-certified options will also be available, making the experience more inclusive for Muslim families and visitors from Singapore and across the region.
A new Lunar New Year experience by the sea
While THE GREAT TANG: BY THE SEA begins with the Tang Dynasty as its inspiration, the ambition extends beyond a single cultural theme. The wider vision is to establish a distinctive Lunar New Year experience by the sea, one that can evolve over time while remaining anchored in heritage, culture, community and togetherness.
Sentosa’s Palawan Green gives that vision a setting unlike a conventional Lunar New Year celebration. Here, cultural discovery sits alongside entertainment, food, fashion and leisure, bringing different generations together in an experience that moves naturally between tradition and contemporary celebration.
The platform also opens opportunities for brands, tourism partners, cultural organisations and creative collaborators to contribute to the celebration through partnerships and experiences that complement its cultural and community focus.
For PushButton Entertainment, THE GREAT TANG: BY THE SEA marks the beginning of a broader ambition: to create cultural experiences that can travel across audiences and generations, while finding fresh relevance in the places and communities that encounter them. For Sentosa, it represents another step in the island’s evolution as a future-ready destination – one that continues to reimagine what a world-class island playground and sanctuary can offer, for Singapore and for the world.
