Celebrate the Best of STAR WARS™ at STAR WARS DAY Singapore 2018
Marking May the 4th this year is a two-day fan-led festival and the STAR WARS RUN Singapore on the night of 5th May
Since its first movie in 1977, Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, STAR WARS has amassed a huge fan following from all over the world. As a tribute to the iconic brand, fans unite annually on May the 4th – a date derived from the iconic phrase “May the Force Be With You” – to celebrate STAR WARS. In Singapore, local event organiser Esprimo and STAR WARS fans, with the support of Singapore Tourism Board will come together as one and commemorate the May the 4th at the second edition of STAR WARS DAY: MAY THE 4TH BE WITH YOU Festival.
Taking place at the F1 Pit Building, the two-day festival boasts a stellar line-up of activities that celebrates all things STAR WARS. Fans can look forward to meet the founder of 501st Legion, Albin Johnson and his pink astromech droid R2-KT, band performances by fan group “Dark Empire”, costume fan appearances, movie under the stars, and much more! The celebrations will also culminate with the STAR WARS RUN Singapore 2018 on the night of 5th May.
HIGHLIGHTS AT ‘STAR WARS DAY 2018: MAY THE 4TH BE WITH YOU’
1. Meet Albin Johnson and Pink Astromech Droid R2-KT LIVE!
STAR WARS fans are in for a treat! Don’t miss this once-in-a lifetime opportunity to get up close and personal with Albin Johnson, founder of the international STAR WARS costuming organisation, 501st Legion.
Albin will be making his first ever appearance in Southeast Asia/Singapore, and will be roving around the festival grounds on the following detail
Date/Time: 4 May at 4pm / 5 May at 2pm
Joining Albin is R2-KT, a stunning pink astromech droid custom built by the founder himself. R2-KT is a star in her own right, having made an appearance in Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015.
R2-KT is as unique as the story behind her creation. Back in 2004, Albin was inspired to create R2-KT for his late daughter, Katie Johnson who was diagnosed with brain cancer. Inspired by how R2-D2 watched over Padme in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, Albin built R2-KT to watch over his Katie. Today, R2-KT is a symbol of Albin’s efforts to spread awareness of paediatric illnesses, and in memory of Katie.
