A mass sketching experience in the heart of the Civic District

Sketch Up 2026

Arts House Group (AHG) invites artists, enthusiasts and the public to rediscover the Civic District through the art of sketching at Sketch Up 2026 – a signature placemaking initiative that transforms public space into a shared canvas of creativity and connection. Taking place on Saturday, 24 January 2026, from 4pm to 7pm, the event will unfold across the National Gallery Singapore and Padang Field.

Part of the Civic District’s placemaking initiatives to enliven the arts and cultural precinct and foster a sense of belonging, Sketch Up 2026 activates iconic spaces to spark community and creativity while celebrating Singapore’s rich heritage. Arts House Group first launched Sketch Up in 2024, the Civic District’s first outdoor mass sketching event. The previous edition invited participants of all ages to capture the architectural beauty of Victoria Theatre and Victoria Concert Hall.

Christie Chua, Head (Venue Programming) at Arts House Group, said, “As place manager of the Civic District, Arts House Group works closely with our stakeholders to activate the precinct and shape it into a vibrant cultural destination. Through Sketch Up, we invite the public to come together to experience the Civic District in fresh and meaningful ways – celebrating creativity, heritage and community through shared moments of making and discovery.”

Participants will gather at Padang Field for a mass sketching session, where they can capture the striking architecture of the National Gallery Singapore alongside a vibrant community of fellow artists and enthusiasts – regardless of skill level, deepening appreciation for the precinct’s architectural and cultural heritage.

The event will have a lasting digital presence, as participants will be encouraged to submit their masterpieces to be displayed as part of a digital showcase on the Civic District website. Following the session, viewers can appreciate the various artistic interpretations of the National Gallery Singapore and vote for their favourite pieces. The artist with the most votes and two voters of the winning sketch will each receive $100 vouchers from Café Brera and Kopi 1930, plus a Gallery Insider Membership (worth up to $35). In addition, the winning artist will also receive a Huion Kamvas 13 Drawing Pad Tablet and Pen Display (worth $239).

On event day, goodie bags containing exclusive merchandise will be given to the first 200 registered participants who check in, on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees are required to bring their personal sketching materials and tools for the event.
