Marina Square June Holiday WWW 2023

Step into Marina Square’s Central Atrium this school holiday period and behold the majestic 3D sculptures of endangered ocean animals. Taking centre stage is an awe-inspiring sculpture of a magnificent whale measuring 8 metres long and other life-sized marine animals such as the shark, dolphin, turtle, seal, polar bears, and a waddle of penguins. Made with eco-friendly cardboard, these amazingly intricate cardboard creations bring the sculptures to life. The sustainability installation is a joint project with Singapore Polytechnic, led by Lead Consultant Mr Bartholomew Ting, to showcase endangered animals in a captivating way that draws visitors’ interest.

Marina Square Wow Wild World June Holiday 2023

“Through the 3D display, we hope to capture visitors’ attention on endangered ocean animals, inspire families and children to learn about ocean pollution, how to reduce and recycle discarded waste through fun learning activities during the school holidays,” said Ms Chan Yien Mei, General Manager of Marina Square Shopping Mall.

“At Singapore Polytechnic (SP), our educators prioritise a holistic education for all our learners. This exhibition saw our students using eco-friendly cardboard to bring sculptures of marine animals to life through intricate carvings and the use of texture to replicate their natural ecosystem. It also enabled them to gain an appreciation and a deeper understanding of the global challenges relating to pollution and sustainability. Through thought-provoking and immersive means, we hope to inspire and motivate the larger community to take action and create a sustainable future for ourselves and future generations,” said Mr Bartholomew Ting, Lead Consultant, Library & FabLab, Singapore Polytechnic.
