Gemilang Kampong Gelam

The Kampong Gelam Alliance (KGA), in strategic collaboration with event partner Syed’s Trader Pte Ltd, proudly announces the return of Singapore’s most iconic festive precinct activation: Gemilang Kampong Gelam 2026.

Running from 11 February to 15 March 2026, this year’s edition signifies a pivotal evolution in precinct management as KGA assumes the mantle of leadership. Building upon the momentum generated by the remarkable success of 2025, which attracted 900,000 visitors, the Alliance aims to sustain this impressive attendance through a community-centric approach.

THEME: HONORING THE ROOTS, SAMPLING THE FUTURE

Gemilang Kampong Gelam 2026 moves beyond the traditional bazaar format to become a cultural intervention. The programming is designed to bridge the gap between the rich culture and the digital pulse of modern youth.

“This is not just a bazaar; it is a living canvas,” says Syed Osman Alsagoff, Place Director of KGA. “By pairing the spiritual depth of Ramadan with the high-energy creativity of our regional youth, we are creating a destination that honors our history while speaking the language of the future.”

Night Walk with Pelita: A Journey of Light & Reflection

This pre-event night walk, happening on 30 January 2026, in collaboration with Drugfree SG is planned to celebrate the spirit of Ramadan, emphasizing themes of unity and reflection, while also revitalizing the cherished tradition of lighting pelita, or oil lamps, which symbolize hope and guidance during this holy month. The primary goal of this event is to engage both youth and families in a meaningful and enriching experience that fosters community ties and spiritual growth. In our efforts to make this initiative impactful, we are collaborating closely with Membina Community to actively promote the “Void Vape” and “Dadah Itu Haram” campaign, which seek to raise awareness about the dangers of vaping and substance abuse among young people.

To further bolster this campaign, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) will have a booth offering resources and information on drug-free awareness. These collaborations aim to provide comprehensive support and resources for our campaign, ensuring a well-rounded approach to community health and safety.

The night walk is scheduled to commence at Serambi Kampong Gelam, located at 45 Sultan Gate, and will gracefully conclude in front of the iconic Sultan Mosque, a landmark that stands as a testament to the rich cultural heritage of the area. Participants can look forward to an evening filled with camaraderie, reflection, and a shared commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles during this special period.

Daily Programmes

Talks and Workshops – This year’s stage programmes will run daily, where on weekdays we see an array of engaging talks and interactive workshops to cater to a diverse audience. On weekends, among the highlights is the friendly Hifz Quran competition, where participants will showcase their memorization skills, demonstrating their dedication and encouraging children to build love and confidence in the Qur’an. Additionally, there will be a captivating community Nasheed performance, bringing together performers from madrasah and non-madrasah backgrounds. Furthermore, the kids’ open mic session presents an opportunity for young talents to take the stage and share their creativity through a short 2 minute speech on anything related to Ramadan. This session aims to foster confidence and self-expression within a safe and nurturing environment. Each of these activities aims to foster community engagement, celebrate cultural expressions, and encourage participation from all age groups, making the event a truly enriching experience for everyone involved.

Child-Minding – As a collaborative initiative with the esteemed Arabic Anonymous Team, we are excited to announce our commitment to supporting families during this special time of Teraweh prayers. To this end, we have programmed dedicated sessions of childminding. During these sessions, children will have the opportunity to engage in a diverse array of enriching activities designed to stimulate their creativity and foster social interaction. While their parents partake in the meaningful experience of Teraweh prayers, children will be involved in various fun and educational activities, such as arts and crafts, storytelling, and interactive games. This arrangement not only ensures that children are well cared for but also allows parents to fully immerse themselves in their spiritual practices, knowing that their little ones are in a safe and enjoyable environment.

Entertainment – The Vision: A Regional Stage We aren’t just hosting a local event; we are creating a regional destination. By spotlighting chart-topping artists from across Singapore and Indonesia, we are speaking the language of Gen Z through the participation of UMG artists – Alyph and Abang Sapau, alongside luminaries such as Fariz Jabba, Tenxi, Yao, and Nadhif Basalamah, all of whom bring their unique flair and artistry to the stage.
