Immerse yourself in a world of art, science, magic and metaphor through a collection of interactive installations.
Future World invites visitors on an exciting journey of discovery spanning two immersive realms – City in Nature and Exploring New Frontiers.
This permanent exhibition is created in collaboration with teamLab, a renowned international art collective.
City in Nature
Start your adventure through City in Nature, a section inspired by Singapore’s urban biodiversity. Create vortices in the flow and watch flowers transform around you, in an art installation that reminds us of the interconnectedness of all things.
Exploring New Frontiers
Take your imagination skyward in Exploring New Frontiers, a section inspired by humanity’s enduring fascination with the world above. Soar through the skies and see the world from new perspectives. Discover how nature’s beauty inspires us to look beyond the horizon and imagine new possibilities.
Crystal Universe
This monumental, immersive and interactive artwork by teamLab, puts you at the heart of the Universe, enabling you to experience astrophysical phenomena such as planets, stars and galaxies.
Inspired by Pointillism, which is a painting technique that uses an accumulation of dots of colour to create a picture, Crystal Universe uses points of light to create three-dimensional images in space.
Visitors can use their smartphones to access a website to select different astrophysical phenomena that then appear in the Crystal Universe. These phenomena are reborn in three dimensions, creating the artwork. The presence of people and their location within the work affects the three-dimensional images, which in turn influence and are influenced by other phenomena that appear in the space.
Light Sculpture with Paper Airplane
Create a paper airplane and fly it into an interactive light sculpture.
In this artwork, teamLab creates a sculpture formed by a collection of light that flows continuously mid-air.
The flight path of each airplane affects the colour, shape, and sound of the artwork, creating a visual and aural spectacle. As the light sculpture cycles through a series of scenes, each scene provides a different set of responses to the paper airplanes.
Sketch Umwelt World
In Sketch Umwelt World, visitors are invited to colour their own aeroplane, butterfly, dolphin or hawk on the paper provided and see their creations appear digitally in the artwork.
Visitors can then use provided tablet devices provided to experience the world from the perspective of the animal or aeroplane that they drew. Aeroplanes represent human vision, butterflies have a 340-degree field of vision, dolphins perceive the world mostly through echolocation, and hawks can focus their vision on two things at once.
Aerial Climbing through a Flock of Colored Birds
Aerial Climbing is an interactive artwork created from horizontal bars of varying colours, projection, coloured light and sound. Suspended by rope, the bars appear to float in space. People can use these bars to navigate carefully through the artwork. The bars are linked, so every movement will affect other bars and also the people who are standing on them. Everyone’s experience will differ depending on the route chosen and how many other people are climbing at the same time. The artwork explores the aerial dance of swooping, intricately coordinated patterns of birds in the sky, a phenomenon known as murmuration.
