CHINGAY@HEARTLANDS CELEBRATIONS TO BRING THE CHINGAY EXPERIENCE TO FIVE NEIGHBOURHOODS ACROSS SINGAPORE

Residents in five island-wide locations will have a variety of exciting experiences and line-up of programmes to enjoy over three weekends in February and March 2024. These Chingay@Heartlands programmes are organised by the various Group Representation Constituencies (GRC) grassroots organisations in partnership with PA community partners.

Bringing residents together through Chingay‘s vibrant spirit of multiculturalism, youthfulness and the showcasing of community arts, these five heartland sites will feature immersive and experiential Chingay programmes to captivate audiences and drive interest and participation in Chingay beyond the 2-day parade on 23 & 24 February 2024.

West Coast GRC & Pioneer SMC Chingay Heartlands

Event overview

• Experience the magic of Chingay right in the heartlands! On 9 March (Sat) 2024, Chingay@Heartlands will be coming to 6 different locations across West Coast GRC and Pioneer Constituency, along with iconic floats and captivating multicultural performances. For the first time, the Chingay community floats, co-created by residents and local artists, will join the large iconic Chingay floats, forming part of the floats caravan that will parade through various estates.

• Each location will also host a slew of fun-filled activities for you and your family, as well as Chingay crowd favourites, such as the popular God of Fortune, stilt walkers, and Chingay performers decked out in their multi-ethnic costumes who will also gladly oblige for a wefie. There will also be community artwork co-created with residents themselves to commemorate and celebrate Singapore’s unique and rich tapestry of cultures.

• Visit and learn more about green action with your little ones at the sustainability showcase @ Telok Blangah, catch a lion and dragon dance performance @ West Coast or enjoy a one-of-its-kind light projection show on a HDB façade @ Boon Lay. Have you ever seen a balloon firecracker? Catch not one, but five @ Ayer Rajah! Head to Pioneer to enjoy roving performance and carnival games or visit Gek Poh to get artsy crafty with bracelet making, straw hat painting and banner graffiti. Finally, end the day off with a finale of fireworks @ the Nanyang neighbourhood!

Chingay@Heartlands Parade Comes To One Punggol

Punggol residents will have a variety of exciting, immersive and experiential Chingay programmes when One Punggol hosts its Chingay festivities at 6.30pm – 10pm on Sunday, 3 March 2024, as part of the People’s Association Chingay@Heartlands celebrations.

The Chingay@Heartlands caravan by Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC and Punggol West SMC begins at the open carpark opposite Downtown East (Pasir Ris Close) and ends at One Punggol.

Bringing residents together through Chingay’s vibrant spirit of multiculturalism, youthfulness and the showcasing of community arts, One Punggol will host its festivities with four Chingay community floats on display, as well as roving performers at The Plaza.

Look out for our very own Punggol community float display – ‘Blossoming Heartland’ – co-created by Pasir Ris-Punggol residents and volunteers. This is the collective effort of residents and volunteers from the Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC and Punggol West SMC, guided by artist Eveline Aathar. The float display is an art installation designed as a magical floral garden and playground filled with beautiful handcrafted flowers.

Families will enjoy the evening with various cultural and stage performances such as energetic drum acts, ‘gu zhen’ instrumental music, and thrilling wushu performance. Kids will enjoy magic shows, as well as pop-up activities such as interactive games and arts & crafts. The lighting of fire crackers outside One Punggol will be the highlight of the evening!
