Centre for Fathering and MUMs for Life return with its signature Mum’s Day Out celebration on Mother’s Day, bringing together families and the community for a heartfelt tribute to motherhood. This year’s theme, “A Mother Is…”, invites children and families to reflect on the many roles, strengths, and expressions of love that mothers embody.
To be held on 10 May 2025 at the Geylang West Community Club, the event will be graced by Guest-of-Honour, Minister Josephine Teo, Grassroots Adviser to Jalan Besar GRC. Families in attendance will be able to enjoy a lineup of engaging activities, including performances and a Mother’s Day Art Competition prize presentation.
Mother’s Day Art Competition and Exhibition
This year’s Mother’s Day Art Competition received strong support from both schools and the community. Over 200 beautiful entries were submitted across the four age-based categories – Preschool (Age 4 – 6); Lower Primary (Age 7 – 9); Upper Primary (Age 10 – 12); and Secondary (Age 13 – 17).
Participants were invited to create an original 2D artwork using traditional mediums such as paint, crayons, coloured pencils, or mixed media. Judging was based on clarity of theme, creativity and originality, as well as art technique.
In a continued show of community support, participants were able to submit their hardcopy artworks at various community clubs and centres islandwide, making it convenient for families and schools to take part. Minister Teo will be presenting the prizes to the winners during the MUM’s Day Out event.
Following the event, an exhibition will be held to showcase selected artworks at the Deependlove Co. pop-up gallery (10 Penang Rd, #01-02, Dhoby Ghaut Green) from 20-22 June 2025. Members of the public are invited to view and appreciate the heartfelt creations by young artists, in celebration of mothers across Singapore.
“A mother’s love is often felt, but not always said,” shares Dr. Xander Ong, CEO, Centre for Fathering. “Through the children’s artwork, we witness the mother-child relationship expressed creatively and powerfully. It’s a reminder that behind every child is a mother who believes in them.”
“It’s heartening to see children across different age groups expressing their appreciation for mothers through such creative and meaningful artworks,” said Ms Joanna Portilla, Families for Life Council Member and competition judge.
“This celebration, with its mix of art and community activities, creates wonderful opportunities for families to come together and honour the special role that mothers play in our lives. It is love made visible, Happy Mother’s Day!”
“We believe that there is creativity in every child, no matter how they choose to express it. Everyone was born with an innate curiosity from birth, we seek to nature the freedom of healthy creative expression,” mused Ms Macy Chan, Founder, CEO & Creative Director of Deependlove Co. “Child-like wonder is precious and should not be lost in the process. It is never too late to start on that process of rediscovering your unique creative expression. What better way than to showcase artistic works about Mother’s Day, with the love for a mother through a child’s perspective?”
Family-Fun Activities at Mum’s Day Out
Organised by Centre for Fathering, MUMs for Life and DADs for Life, MUM’s Day Out will continue to honour the unique identities and contributions of mothers, while fostering stronger family connections.
Throughout the day, families can look forward to bond over a delightful range of fringe activities. These include creative hands-on stations for parents and children to make various items together – such as Mother’s Day cards, crochet items, hand-sanitisers and hand-pressed flower bookmarks. There will also be fun and interactive elements to engage children, with a recycling game, bouncy castle, balloon sculpting and engaging booth activities. To add to the festive atmosphere, guests can also feast on classic local favourite with a live rojak station.
