I’m pretty picky about my Bluetooth earbuds.

Some are great at noise cancelling, but don’t have the option for ambient noise. Others connect quickly to Bluetooth, but only last for a couple of hours before running out of battery, which disrupt my day when I have multiple video meetings and important calls to make.

Worse still, some have half decent sound quality, but aren’t great at picking up my voice, which means I need to speak louder during calls especially while wearing a mask.

The LUMOS TEMPO comes in a white box that highlights its active noise cancellation feature. Upon unboxing it, the package comes with a sleek case enclosing the earbuds, a USB cable, different silicon earpiece sizes, a black manual, and a white card with important tips to know.

1. Great sound quality

LUMOS TEMPO offers the Trinity360 sound quality, which means the bass, midrange and treble are tested and calibrated optimally such that you hear the true-to-original character of your favourite music. I tested the earbuds on a variety of music genres, such as instrumental jazz, pop, progressive rock, house, and classical music, and enjoyed the quality of the music much better than on a typical pair of Bluetooth earbuds.

2. Options between active noise cancelling mode and ambient mode

This is what I really need as a working mum;

• a choice to be immersed in the audio and enjoy my music or dramas (with noise cancellation of up to 42db, while the industry average is only 30db) or
• switch to ambient mode quickly to hear my surroundings when my children are around, or when I’m on the go.
  With just a couple of taps on the right earbud, I can switch modes easily.

3. Quick Bluetooth connection that stays

Connecting to Bluetooth was quick as LUMOS TEMPO uses the latest Bluetooth 5.2 version, and the earbuds stayed connected even while charging, so that I could easily put them on for sudden phone calls without having to pair all over again.

The earbuds are also relatively sensitive to taps on the earbuds to pause, play and fast forward when I’m on the go, instead of having to check my mobile phone to toggle these commands.

4. Long earbuds battery life, and clearer HD voice in calls

I used to get fed up when my previous Bluetooth earbuds ran out of battery halfway during important calls. But with LUMOS TEMPO, the fully charged earbuds pack 7 hours of battery life, which is extended by 23 hours in a fully charged case. According to the manual provided, it takes 1 hour to fully charge the earbud, and 2 hours to fully charge the case. A USB-C cable is provided in the package.

LUMOS TEMPO has 3 microphones on each earbud, which mean a pair is equipped with 6 microphones. With LUMOS TEMPO, I don’t have to speak as loudly as I used to with my old earbuds, and my family can hear me clearly on the other side of the call.

5. Family-friendly

I like how the LUMOS TEMPO earbuds come with different adjustable earpiece sizes (S, M and L) if my kids or husband need to use the earbuds. The earbuds are also great for exercises and outdoor activities as they are rated IPX5 sweat and water-splash proof.

For future versions, it will be useful to add some traction to the earbud surface for easy gripping to pull out from the case, and attach a carabiner (could be via an external silicon casing) so that parents can easily hook the case at an easy-to-reach part of our bags to secure it.

We hope LUMOS TEMPO will consider developing a child-friendly version with cute designs, enhanced volume protection, and location-tracker, in the future.
