UglyDolls is a newly released animated film that carries a strong message about the beauty of imperfection. It is alright to be different and the film talks about what it means to be unique and discover that you do not have to be what some consider to be perfect to be amazing. We have lined up a series of fun activities at KINEX to celebrate uniqueness and individuality.

Making Lives Count, KINEX new tenant Distinct Creative Arts will be performing a flash mob on 15 June at KINEX in collaboration with Disabled People’s Association in an inclusive flash mob involving youths with and without disabilities.

Xue Zhi Yong, founder of Distinct Creative Arts “We want to celebrate different abilities and spread the spirit of inclusion”. DCA is a social enterprise that uses dance as a powerful tool to educate, engage and empower. Every week, the dance academy reaches out to thousands of youths including many who are marginalised or at-risk.

“Aimed at creating a space for differentiated learning and creativity amongst the next generation, the event encourages all participants to acquire the important skill of meeting and working with people who are different from them, and being equipped to take an inclusive approach back to empower their respective communities.”

Ms Valerie Chia, Community Engagement Executive of Disabled People’s Association, “Through this platform, we aim to inculcate the spirit of inclusion through experiential learning to celebrate different abilities. Advocating for the social model of disability, this event hopes to leverage on the Arts to breakdown social barriers and build skills to contribute to an inclusive society”.

In the 6 weeks leading up to the inclusive flash mob event, Distinct Creative Arts conducted weekly training for all participants where a youth with disability was buddied up with a youth without disability. Be sure to join us as UglyDolls will be here too to cheer on the participants.
