To encourage the love of reading among children, the Singapore Book Publishers Association (SBPA) is organising a #BuySingLit Children’s Book Bazaar from Monday 29 November 2021 as part of the #BuySingLit movement, which is supported by the National Arts Council. The official venue sponsor is the National Library Board, Singapore (NLB) and the online book sales are powered by LAZADA as the Official E-commerce partner.

BuySingLit Childrens Book Bazaar 2021

The Book Bazaar will be held from Monday 29 November 2021 to Sunday 5 December 2021, over a period of 7 days at the Programme Zone at Basement 1 of the Central Public Library. It will be a hybrid event with stage performances with online programmes curated for the consumers in mind. While the online book fair is happening here, you can also shop, watch and participate in our activities and events virtually.

There will be six virtual halls on the webpage. The six virtual halls are

  • Bookstore
  • Event
  • Activity
  • Promotion
  • Storyland
  • Competition

On the opening day, Monday 29 November 2021 at 11:00 am, the Children’s Book Bazaar will be launched by a Guest-of-Honour at the venue, to be followed by a joint book launch by Experiences and Experiments Books and Pustaka Nasional.

The event is open to the public after 2pm on the launch day and on the weekends from 11am to 7pm. Entry is free but attendees are advised to book on Eventbrite.sg prior to entry. Walk-ins are also allowed with registration. There will be one in-person programme for weekdays and three in-person programmes during the weekends. Virtual programmes would be planned for parents on weekday evenings as well.

We have 10 leading publishers and booksellers participating in the Children’s Book Bazaar 2021. They are Asiapac Books, Banjo and Sons, Candid Creation Publishing, Experiences and Experiments Books, Jsim Education, Lingzi Media, Marshall Cavendish International (Asia), Pan Asia Publishing, Pustaka Nasional and World Scientific. Visitors can view the books published by them on the exhibition panels at the venue and scan the QR codes to visit the websites or purchase from them through their Lazada Webstores.

To complement the online virtual bookstores by the publishers, there would be a series of promotions organised by SBPA. These include voting for the favourite children’s books from participating publishers, free e-books, free audiobooks, redemption of #SingLit tote bags and book bazaar subscription.

STORYLAND

BuySingLit Childrens Book Bazaar Storyland

A new feature of the Children’s Book Bazaar is a virtual storyland for kids. The Storyland comprises 10 virtual bookstores, each with its own storytelling videos, e-books, arts and crafts and games for children. Storyland will be open from 9am to 6pm daily throughout the book bazaar.

KIDS’ STORYTELLING COMPETITION

It is a storytelling competition for primary school students to cultivate bilingual articulation and gain confidence in reading, writing, comprehension and oratory skills. This competition is specially designed for local primary school children, aged between 7 to 12 years old.

There are 2 categories in the competition. The first category is for children aged 7 to 9 years old while the second category is for children aged 10 to 12 years old. Participants will have to register online and submit a video of them narrating a story for 2 to 5 minutes.

They are encouraged to use mother tongue languages and English to tell their story in this multi-tiered storytelling competition. The students would have opportunities to hone their language skills, demonstrate their language proficiency and gain public-speaking confidence, throughout the competition.

Ten finalists from each category will be announced at the launch of the Children’s Book Bazaar on 29 November. Seven consolation prizes for each category will be announced at the same time.

The top three winners of the two award categories will be announced on the closing day of the Children’s Book Bazaar on 5 December.
