Celebrate Sesame Street’s 50th anniversary by participating in the world’s first Sesame Street Run in sunny Singapore at Our Tampines Hub (OTH) on 17 November 2019 from 6am – 12pm, where a wide array of interactive fun-filled activities await families and participants of all ages, including a 5km Fun Run, and a full-fledged Sesame Street-themed carnival (open to the public after the run) from 12pm.

Entrenched in Community, Committed to Giving Back

Appropriately themed “Stronger and Healthier with Every Step”, Singapore’s first-ever edition of the Sesame Street Run in Singapore has a specially selected venue to align its unique event concept to the localisation and engagement element of its objectives – to fully encourage participation and promote healthy family activities through a morning of bonding and discovery in the heartlands.

The Run will be held in the region of Tampines with the heartbeat of its town, Our Tampines Hub, the event centrepiece. Singapore’s first and largest integrated community and lifestyle hub has established itself as the Heart of Tampines since 2017, catering to the needs of over 250,000 Tampines residents and visitors from all around Singapore. Beyond amenities, the Hub is also integral in promoting community initiatives, serving as the ideal platform for outreach and engagement efforts by both public and private sector organisations, welcoming 18 million visitors through more than 240 events held in 2018 alone.

As part of the Run’s collaboration with this specially selected venue, the organisers have been working collaboratively with various public service grassroots organisations to make the event truly entrenched in community.

Besides offering special perks for PAssion card holders and Tampines residents in particular, the organisers will also distribute free tickets to more than 500 under-served families and young children from the Tampines region through the People Association’s Community Development Fund (PACDF), which supports programmes and events that develop social capital within the community. Additionally through partnering with government agencies like People’s Association (through Our Tampines Hub, Tampines Central Community Club, Tampines West Community Club, and Tampines West Community Sports Club) and SportsSG, the event will involve a myriad of direct community participation, including band performances from schools in Tampines, event volunteers from Tampines and a targeted outreach approach where multi-generational families and persons with disability are encouraged to join in the fun.

The event will be flagged off by Guest-of-Honour Mr Baey Yam Keng, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Minister of Culture, Community and Youth and Ministry of Transport & Adviser to Tampines Grassroots Organisations, who will also be joining in the run with Tampines residents.

Singapore Book of Records will leave Cookie Monster in awe!

As an anchor of part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, the event organisers Heroes Pvt Ltd has partnered with the Association for Persons with Special Needs (APSN), to break the Singapore Book of Records attempt for having the biggest Sesame Street logo made up of cookies. Measuring four square metres in size, even Cookie Monster will be impressed!

Each cookie, which will be dyed in accordance of the Sesame Street 50th Anniversary logo and will be meticulously arranged by trainees from APSN Centre for Adult’s Bakery Enterprise.

Additionally, participants at the run will also have a chance to get a taste of this record breaking feat as these cookies will also be on sale at the APSN booth at the carnival. All proceeds will go to the APSN to assist in making improvements and enhance their ability to help more people with special-needs.

Route for the Sesame Street Run

Singapore’s first Sesame Street Run will consist of a 5-kilometre route within the Tampines region, which will start and end at Our Tampines Hub (OTH). Participants will make their way through scenic Tampines Central Park, across heartland landmarks, make a pit stop at Tampines West Community Club before reaching the finish line.

With all birthday celebrations, there’s always cake! To commemorate the special occasion, the run will start with a Giant Birthday Cake Blowout with the special flag-off and countdown done by our favourite Count Von Count as he counts down to this joyous occasion. Everyone’s favourite Sesame Street characters such as Elmo, Abby Caddaby, Grover and of course Cookie Monster will be joining in the fun and running alongside participants at the starting line.

For families with younger children and grandparents in tow, the run will also have separate 2-kilometre leisure walks so everyone can cross the finishing line together, making it a perfect family bonding experience.

Participants can look out for the many photo opportunities en route to the finish line and also spot various Sesame Street figurines and alphabet cut-outs along the way.

A Carnival for Everyone

But the party isn’t over yet! Participants who pass the finish line can go wild at the Sesame Street Carnival at Our Tampines Hub (OTH) where many Sesame Street-themed games and activities await.

Apart from a giant wall available for everyone to leave any dedications and well wishes to their favourite Sesame Street characters, there will also be colouring and nail painting stations for kids and a movie corner for the entire family to have a much deserved relaxing session together post-run! On top of that, participants can snap a picture with the Sesame Street gang and other iconic Sesame Street photo spots such as Big Bird’s Nest and Ernie’s giant rubber duckie.

Other than fun games and interactive activities for the entire family, participants can shop till they drop from the various vendor booths at the Sesame Street Run such as Ben’s Cookies, Mighty Jaxx, APSN and many more. For those who want a grab memorable souvenirs, a variety of Sesame Street merchandise items will also be sold separately on the day of the run including the cap, drawstring bag, sunglasses, wristband and more!
