Swing and Dance to the Rhythm

Band music lovers can look forward to a series of local and international youth bands showcasing their musical talent in harmony with nature. As part of the Singapore International Band Festival‘s outreach programme, 28 participating school bands from Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Thailand, will perform at Sentosa’s Palawan Beach on 30 July. On National Day, check out the Havixbeck Youth Symphonic Band‘s performance at the Merlion Plaza. Founded in 1973 and currently one of the few highest degree Youth Concert Bands in Germany today, the award-winning 60-member band will bring the nation’s birthday celebrations to a high with a moving crescendo of National-Day themed songs.

Have a musical weekend and witness history being made as Yeo-Ah-Yeo (13 August) makes an attempt to break the current record for the longest duration of mass line dancing. Celebrate being Singaporean with the SAF Music and Drama Company (MDC), and be entertained by the young musical talents of MDC and games for everyone in the family that will leave you all Shiok-ed Out, happening on 20 August. The annual Singapore Rhapsodies – the Concert will also return on 27 August at Sentosa’s Palawan Green, showcasing the best of emerging musicians and popular pop stars of today. Performing artistes include singer-songwriters Charlie Lim, Chen Diya and Daphne Khoo, Singapore Idol 3 winner Sezairi Sezali, and singer/actor Nathan Hartono who made waves in China in a recent singing competition.

From 30 July to 28 August, the majestic Sentosa Merlion will come to life with colourful and vibrant lights and projections, celebrating our nation’s birthday in style.
