istana art event on the spot art competition

Titled All Roads Lead to Singapore! by the Museum Roundtable, this year’s Istana Art Event celebrates the Singapore Bicentennial by laying out key Singapore stories on the front lawn of the President’s residence. Learn about the colourful history of the former Supreme Court and City Hall buildings with hands-on relief printing presented by the National Gallery Singapore. Put together a giant jigsaw puzzle adapted from an artwork taken from Singapore Art Museum (SAM)’s Touch Collection. With the help of shadow puppets, listen to Primary students from Ai Tong School tell stories about how Kusu Island and Bukit Merah got their names.

After that, tell your own story by first customising your very own wayang kulit puppet with materials provided by the Asian Civilisations Museum. There will also be a limited edition activity booklet that contains images of spices from the National Museum of Singapore’s Farquhar Collection for you to colour in, and a page for you to create your own collages using stamps by STPI – Creative Workshop & Gallery.
