A Fun, Immersive Adventure Awaits You This Holiday Season

No plans for the upcoming November and December school holidays? Singapore Discovery Centre (SDC) and the Army Museum of Singapore (ARMS) present an exciting line-up of family-friendly events and activities from 18 November 2017 to 1 January 2018.

SDC's Year-End Holiday Activities

This holiday season, SDC is pleased to present an array of activities which aims to set you off in an adventure around the centre. Visitors will get a chance to learn while on a quest to complete the secret mission and bring home that special memory this holiday season. Be rewarded with limited edition SDC collectibles as you take part in our Christmas programmes. What’s more, participants will stand a chance to win marvelous prizes when you take part in the Holiday Escapade lucky draw.

As we gear towards the end of the NS50 campaign, ARMS has specially designed programmes that would inspire the next generation of future leaders. Experience hands-on activities and head out for an adventure like our boys in green. It’s time to camo on and suit up like a soldier.

1. “SG: Shiok, Ulu & Steady Together!” Special Exhibition

2. I-NNOVATE SG! – Vroom To The Future Craft Activity
Date: 19, 25, 26 Nov & 2, 9, 10, 16, 17, 30, 31 December 2017

Join in the fun and let your imagination take flight, as you build solutions to tackle different scenarios related to Singapore’s future. Through this drop-in-craft activity, you will appreciate how innovation has played a key role in shaping Singapore’s defence and security landscape. Who knows? One day, some of your great ideas might just work towards safeguarding our Singaporean way of life!

3. I-NNOVATE SG! – Innovation Challenge
Date: 19, 25, 26 Nov & 2, 9, 10, 16, 17, 30, 31 December 2017

From having the courage to be fearless in taking risks and trying new ways of doing things, to having that passion to pursue your curiosity, to having the resilience and determination to bounce back in your quest for success. These qualities are central to innovation, which is key to Singapore’s future.

Team up with your family members and friends and complete our Innovation Challenge through fun & play within our Permanent Exhibits Gallery (PEG). Complete all 4 tracks (Cool Coder, Trendy Techie, Cyber Warrior, Mighty Millennial) of our Innovation Challenge to obtain a full set of our 12 collectible cards and you stand a chance to participate in our I-nnovate SG Lucky Draw. I-NNOVATE SG! Innovation Challenge

4. Thematic Tour – Securing SG: Your Voice, Your Choice
Date: 2 to 31 December 2017 (Sat & Sun)
Time: 12.30pm to 1.30pm
Admission: Free

This year’s thematic tour aims to reiterate the importance of vigilance in deterring possible aggressions that may occur to our country. This key learning point will be highlighted during the dramatised tour which will include an interactive clue-finding activity, role-play, the screening of Crisis Simulation Theatre Show 1: Could this Happen to Singapore?, a short tour of Zone 1 of the special exhibition: ‘Shiok, Ulu and Steady Together’, and a debrief at the end of the tour.

The tour will be conducted in a game format where participants will have to identify how and what caused the bomb attack. Inspired by the games Episode and Cluedo, participants will get to “witness’ a terrorist attack. They will be roped in as part of an expert team to reverse time, examine clues (e.g. suspicious characters and items) and identify the cause to prevent the attack from happening.

5. Merry X’mas SingaPaw Meet-and-Greet
Date: 16 & 17 December 2017
Time: 1pm, 2pm, 2.45pm, 3.30pm
Activity: Free

Get up close and personal with SDC’s bubbly mascot – SingaPaw this Christmas. This friendly and lovable lion cub is filled with curiosity. Follow SingaPaw as he explores and learns more about our Singapore Stories at the S’pore Discovery Centre! This Christmas, SingaPaw will be in his Santa costume ready to mingle with his fans. Who knows you might receive a little gift from ‘SantaPaw’.

6. Let It Snow! Lucky Grab
Date: 16 & 17 December 2017
Time: 1.30pm, 3pm, 4.30pm
Activity: Free

Have a go at our ‘Let it Snow!’ lucky grab activity and stand a chance to win attractive prizes such as SingaPaw epoxy magnets, Singapore quote t-shirts, limited edition collectibles and shopping vouchers. Simply complete the special exhibition activity sheet to qualify for the lucky grab activity. Be blown away by the cooling breeze as it blends the colorful lucky strips up in the air. 7. Memories with SDC

Activity: Free

Bring home a memory from your visit to SDC. Redeem your free printed photograph taken at the Christmas photo wall when you hashtag #SporeDiscoveryCentre. Props will be available to add on to the festive mood.

8. Holiday Escapade Lucky Draw
Date: From 18 November 2017 till 1 January 2018

Stand a chance to win amazing prizes when you complete the adventure passport. This adventure passport will set you off on a journey around SDC and ARMS as you seek high and low for the stamps. Participants will have to collect 4 stamps from the stamping counters found at the ticketing counter in SDC and ARMS, permanent exhibition gallery and the ‘SG: Shiok, Ulu & Steady Together!’ special exhibition. Get your adventure passport from the ticketing counter before exploring the wonders of SDC and ARMS. Winners will be announced on Mon, 8 Jan 2018.

ARMS’ Year End Holiday Activities:
1. NS50 Special Exhibition
Date: 25 November & 2, 9 December 2017
Time: 10am to 5pm
Admission: Free

Take a walk down memory lane as you learn about the evolution of National Service throughout the years. Visitors will learn about the 9-week training recruits undergo during BMT before they graduate to the next phase of their military lives, as well as the exercises and missions that national servicemen take part in, to maintain operational readiness.

Take up the challenge at the interactive stations to get a taste of the rigorous conditioning that servicemen undergo to stay fit and mission ready. Pen down your support for our servicemen and receive a limited edition souvenir.

2. Survival@ARMS
Date: 25 November & 2, 9 December 2017
Time: 1.30pm to 6pm
Admission: $12 per child (pre-registration required); payable by bank transfer or in person at ARMS Ticketing Counter.

In this half-day ‘field camp’ activity, participants will experience how soldiers live out in the field, through hands-on activities such as “Basha” tent pitching, field cooking and camouflaging. They get to taste the Combat Ration as well as getting their hands on the essential accessories pack.

3. Night@ARMS
Date: 18 to 19 Noveber 2017
Time: Sat 1:30pm | Sun 1:30pm
Admission: $102 per father-child pair (pre-registration required); payable by bank transfer or in person at ARMS Ticketing Counter.

Take on the challenge at our 2D1N camp and spend a night in a basha tent, go on a confidence walk and feast on combat rations like our SAF soldiers! ‘Night@ARMS’ participants have the opportunity to enjoy a wider range of activities such as the jungle trail battle course, marksmanship training via the Individual Marksmanship Trainer (IMT) and also a fuller field cooking experience.

4. Be A Soldier
Date: 18, 19, 25, 26 November & 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24, 30, 31 December 2017
Time: 10am to 5pm
Admission: Free Admission

Participants will be able to take on their dream Army role, by donning child-sized Army uniforms. Props such as rifle, binoculars, walkie-talkie, as well as a backdrop, will be provided to add to the excitement of photo-taking.

Be A Soldier

5. Soldier Craft
Date: 18 Nov 2017 to 1 Jan 2018 (Except Mondays)
Time: 10am to 5pm
Admission: Free Admission

Collect your limited edition Army papercraft now! Through this craft activity, participants will get to learn about the selected roles in the Army, such as security trooper, Explosives & Ordnance Disposal Unit (EOD) and Military Working Dogs Unit. Participants can even get to bring back their completed soldier crafts as souvenirs.

6. Under Siege!
Date: 18, 25 November & 2, 9 December 2017
Time: 10am to 11.30am and 3pm to 4.30pm
Admission: Free Admission

This workshop-styled programme allows participants to assemble and launch their own customised trebuchet. In this workshop, participants will learn the concept and physics behind the most effective medieval siege weapon with the use of Knex that have inspired much of today’s modern weaponry while having fun hitting different targets.
