iGenius

“Our job is to teach the student we have. Not the ones we would like to have. Not the ones we used to have. Those we have right now. All of them.” – Dr. Kevin Maxwell

About iGenius
iGenius believes each child has untapped potential and can learn to harness his brainpower to the fullest with proper training and nurturing in a conducive environment.

Philosophy
iGeniusiGenius rides on the notion that each child has the natural ability to learn and has an enormous potential waiting to be tapped on. We believe that a child is able to reach that potential if he is placed in a nurturing environment where there are endless enriching brain-building experiences to build on his cognitive potential.

iGenius is a learning centre that specializes in programmes to develop your child’s intellectual development. Our programmes are founded on research-based principles to promote the development of the whole brain, so that the child has, at his disposal, the strengths of both hemispheres of the brain.

Vision
iGenius aims to be a leader in whole-brain education by providing the tools needed to develop the child’s potential and talents to the fullest. We hope each child will grow to understand his true self and be inspired to always act with thoughtfulness and compassion.

Key Features of our Approach

Intentional Learning
The educator in this approach supports and encourages, rather than interrupts play and assumes a non-controlling role. The sessions are carried out intentionally to cultivate certain skills or to enhance specific abilities within a child.

Whole Brain Learning
The curriculum is crafted with the intent to include opportunities for the rational left-brain and creative right-brain to exercise. By doing so, we aim to enhance the synergy between the hemispheres and encourage your child to tap on their whole brain more holistically and naturally.

Multiple Intelligences
iGenius believes that each child has multiple intelligences, and they can only be fully maximized when these intelligences are tapped on. The programmes are intentionally crafted to ensure that your child has opportunities to build on their various intelligences.

Children who have enrolled in the programmes will be better developed in their multiple intelligences and also be exposed to opportunities to discover their most optimum way to learn. Children who have graduated from our programmes are more confident and independent. They are able to problem-solve and find solutions more creatively, holistically and effectively. They are also better prepared for school and the life that is ahead of them.

“The playing adult steps sideward into another reality; the playing child advances forward to new stages of mastery.” – Erik Erikson

In iGenius, we believe that the key to effective learning is intentional play and learning. While there are ample opportunities for parents today to allow their children to play freely, intentional learning is often lacking. At iGenius, while play is still important, the programmes are also tailored to specially consider the following aspects:

  • Multiple intelligences: such as verbal, visual, naturalist intrapersonal, rhythmic, logical, interpersonal, kinaesthetic and mathematical intelligences
  • Holistic development: the programmes are specially tailored to include activities that are aimed to explore the multiple intelligences within a session so that the child will develop more holistically.
  • Creative and Imaginary Development

While we know that parents are the most influential persons in a child’s life, our programmes are also aimed to empower parents with skills to guide their babies in establishing patterns for learning. The iGenius BabyGenius programmes are all parent-accompanied, with a small class ratio of 1 teacher: 6-8 students (and their parents) per class. The lessons are held weekly at an optimum duration of 50 minutes per session.

Our enrichment playgroups provide an excellent head start for a holistic development of the child. At the end of the full session, your child will develop:

  • Recognition of Colours and Shapes
  • Understanding of Numbers
  • Language and Speech Development
  • Observational and Listening Skills
  • Fine Motor Skills
  • Rhythm Awareness
  • Sensory Awareness
  • Creativity and Imagination
  • Self-Confidence
  • Social and Interpersonal skills
  • Joy for Learning

iGenius Whole Brain

Whole Brain Learning

“If you are exposed to enough things, you’ll develop a processor that can handle the flood of data that life throws at you later.” – Martha Pierson, a neurobiologist at Baylor College of Medicine, believes that children need a flood of information or a feast of knowledge. She emphasizes that early education shapes the basic architecture of the brain.

Preparing our children for school
Preparing our children for school is a challenging task, let alone for life ahead. As parents, we wish for our children to do well in school and in life, yet not every parent knows how to help our children to achieve that. It is believed that your child will experience a more positive educational school life if they are well prepared for learning.

While we all know the benefits of exposing our children early to academics* prior school, many do not know that providing them with essential learning skills will help them more effectively for school and life success. In conventional teaching methods, which have been proven to be less effective – a child learns through drilling, memorising and regurgitation of facts. However the tests that they are placed through their school depend very much on the linear, methodical left-brain, which builds memory through repetition and logical links.

Consolidated learning skills to support academics
At iGenius, we intentionally expose and guide our children to more effective learning methods. We do so by activating their less-utilised right brains. By doing so, their visual centres will be stimulated, which will in turn boost learning and assist them in remembering necessary information (required in school or life). Visual stimulation boosts learning by developing and sharpening the right brain’s photographic memory, visualisation skill, intuition and creativity, creating a holistic approach to learning. At the same time, we also help your child improve his concentration and sense of creativity.

Children who attend the programme will have vast opportunities to tap on their potential and harness their brainpower to the fullness. Their interests to learn and learning abilities will be enhanced.

The iGenius Whole Brain Learning programme is only parent-accompanied for the 3-4 years old classes. The classes for 5-12 years old are non-parent-accompanied to encourage independent learning. The teacher student ratio is about 1 teacher: 6-8 students per class. The lessons are held weekly at an optimum time of 60-90 minutes per session (depending on the age group).

At the end of the full session, your child will develop

  • Memory Skills and Concentration
  • Analytical Skills, Observation Habits and Listening skills
  • Logical Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills
  • Reading and Numeracy Abilities
  • Language and Speech Development
  • Spatial Awareness
  • Creativity and Imagination
  • Rhythm Awareness
  • Fine Motor Skills
  • Self-Confidence
  • Social and Interpersonal Skills
  • Joy for Learning

*A study by Dr Kay Margetts, an associate professor in early childhood studies, examined the opinions of preps reveals that children rate prior knowledge of the alphabet and other basic academic skills as crucial in helping them adapt to school.

When a child is exposed early to literacy and numeracy, they would feel more comfortable when they start school.
