Does parenthood deprive you time for enjoyment and chilling out? Let that be ‘No’ for an answer. We suss out great places that will delight both adults and kids. And that is, ice cream parlours/cafes!
It started way back in 1948, even before the brand reached Singapore in 1979.
Swensen’s is now the familiar household name for ice cream sundaes. Its 180 ice cream flavours have served the young to old for more than three decades.
As it evolved to a restaurant chain, the brand grows and caters more to family needs, especially those with kids. Their best-sellers are probably the Regular Earthquake, with a generous selection of up to 8 different ice cream flavours, as well as their signature Swensen’s Banana Split. Awesome. These choices can never go wrong for the kids! Adults love them too.
Here are the Swensen’s outlets in Singapore

2. Ben & Jerry’s
Ben & Jerry’s started way back in the 60s, by Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield and their great love for food. Their ice cream are pretty well-known for the generous chunks and bits of ingredients (which made eating, even merrier!). Eclectic flavours such as Chunky Monkey and Phish Food are among the hot favourites – no doubt for kids as well.
We strongly recommend Ben & Jerry’s at Dempsey Hill for their pleasant surrounding and peaceful tranquillity. It makes eating less stressful, especially with kids (and prams).
Happy food and serene ambience, chilling out with the kids may not be that bad after all.

3. Cold Stone Creamery
Cold Stone Creamery–the parlour with passionate and energetic crew, crazy singing and dancing, and if you’re lucky, some ice cream flipping action in play!
We love Cold Stone Creamery. Almost of the flavours… Strawberry Banana Rendezvous, Chocolate Devotion, Peanut Butter Cup Perfection, Founders’ Favorite, Berry Berry Berry Good and Oreo Overload. They are all among our top choices.
Why not enjoy the crew in action together with your kids? Never underestimate the power of these crew–they are entertaining, engaging and vivacious! Kids will love them in action.
What’s more? Some of the Cold Stone Creamery outlets do have a kids’ viewing section for the young ones to catch a glimpse of the action. How thoughtful!

4. Charlie Brown’s Cafe (Singapore)
Charlie Brown, Snoopy and friends. Their names do ring a bell, don’t they?
Yes! Catch the American Peanuts Comic Strips characters at a cosy little cafe in the heart of town. They serve delicious food, desserts and drinks–all tastefully adorned with these cute characters.
Their signature crepes served with ice cream is the best bet for both adults and kids. Try Charlie’s recommendation for Charlie’s Peanuts Crepe ($9.80) or Snoopy’s Chocolate ($9.80). The ice cream goes so well with the crepes that even adults could not resist the temptation to stop eating. For kids, needless to say, they adore the comic characters and saccharine flavours.

5. 320 Below Nitro Cream Cafe
Imagine having your ice cream done up right in front of you and your kid. How awesome is that?
The concept of using liquid nitrogen to freeze up ice cream is not new. Nevertheless, 320 Below Nitro Cream Cafe is probably among the few to bring this process of ice cream making to an interesting level (and an educational one).
For the kids, we recommend regular flavours such as Peanut Butter, Milk Chocolate or Banana. Whereas for adults, we say yes to alcoholic signatures such as Lychee Martini, Rum & Raisins or Bailey’s Coffee.
Making ice cream is like learning science. It gets better when the kids can get to taste them too. Go on, indulge and enjoy!
