Weaning List

Date April 21, 2008

Oh no..Ashlyn refused food again.  She is already going 9 months old but her solid intake is barely half compared to Ashton when Ashton was at her age.  I got kind of panicky.  The peadiatrician suggested more vegetables for her to build her immune system.  I am now trying all my best to encourage her to eat and changing her recipes frequently to introduce a variety.  Here’s a list of food for a weaning baby provided by the doctor.  Hope it helps.

Foods that are least likely to cause allergic reactions (to be introduced from the 5th month): rice, carrot, pear, apple, prune

Foods which are usually well tolerated but occasionally cause allergic reactions (to be introduced from the 6th month): Barley, Oat, Wheat, beef, pork, lamb, chicken, broccoli, cabbage, corn, potato, spinach, tomato, turnip, apricot, banana, cherry, citrus fruit juices (orange), prune, peach.

Foods that are most likely to cause allergic reactions (to be introduce from 9th month): egg yolk (must be fully cooked), legumes (soybeans, peas, beans) berries (strawberry and raspberry), fish

Foods which are highly allergic (to be introduced from the 12th month): Seafood (eg. prawns, crabs, dried and fresh scallops), peanuts and egg white.

However, this only serves as an guideline.  It will be good if your child is able to take these.  If not, introduce at a slower pace.  Ashton has got eczema and food allergies.  Till now, I have not introduce him to seafood and eggs yet.  I tried a few times but he is highly allergic to eggs.  He vomit instantly for a few times after taking eggs and I got to rush him to the doctor. Always start with a small portion and observe her child’s reaction.
