The Greatest Love Of All…A Parent’s Love

Date August 20, 2008

It was until I became a mother myself that I began to realise that the our parents’ love is the greatest love of all.

A parent’s love is unconditional.  The love starts on the very first day when we entered our mummy’s womb.  Our mothers take good care of us by eating better for our formation, do pre-natal bonding with us by singing and reading to us.  Fathers, in turn take good care of mothers and ensure their well-being.  In fact, I always feel that the fathers’ efforts are always left unappreciated and neglected by the children as most tend to prefer mummies over daddies.

The duties of a parent always took a toil on them both physically and emotionally.  Our parents go all out to take good care of us from the day we arrive into this world till the day they depart.

They endure broken sleep in the nights to change our diapers and feed us.  The next morning, they go off to work with barely 5 hours of sleep while we were still in slumberland.  What’s more, when we are sick, they stay up the whole night taking care of us.

Time past and soon we are on our way to independence.  That’s the start of another series of emotional toil on them.  We repay their gratitude by talking back to them, being rebellious and making them worry about us.  We prefer to hang out with friends rather than going up on a family outing with them.  However, they are always there for us when we are in need of help and there we are fighting hard for our independence.  Their love for us always remain firm and strong.  That’s the unconditional love that our parents always give to us.

They are always there when we need them and let us fly whenever it’s time to let go…

I would like to dedicate this to the following people:

  • my mother, father, my mum-in-law and father-in-law (he is no longer around) to let them know how much they are being appreciated.
  • every parents…no matter how tough parenthood can be, I am sure your children will grow up appreciating all the efforts you put in to nurture them.
  • all children out there to be more appreciative of their parents
  • to my husband, Poh Heng for being a patient and loving father
  • to my friend, Zachary who forward this video clip to me and suggested I write about it. (He is a new age father of an 8 year old boy)
  • and not forgetting myself…a SAHM
