Tech Saturday is a tech carnival that aims to bring something experiential for everyone in the form of fun-learning tinkering stations, interactive showcases and demos, hands-on tech and media workshops and more. It is one of IMDA’s public outreach and engagement platforms to create awareness on how technology can make a massive and positive impact on the way we live, work and play, and to show the accessibility of technology.

Through the showcases of tech and media demos, local companies and talent, the carnival also highlight tech and media industry provide viable career choices and these sectors play a part in contributing to the Singapore’s transformation towards a digital economy.




6 Highlights of The Event
Tech Saturday has six experiential and activities area for members of the public to explore and discover:

1. Tinker Space

Featuring fun-learning tinkering stations, the Tinker Space is a prototype demo space as well as a marketplace for visitors. One can get hands-on with the technology and discover how technology can be simple, fun and innovative. There are 24 tinkering booths in the 350sqm area available for exploration and discovery.

2. Interactive Showcase

The 550sqm space features 11 interactive showcases for one who aspire to be a digital innovator. Learn how the borders of technology, engineering, media, art and designs are converging and how the digital natives are creating the next generation technology products.

There will be engineering showcases, virtual reality and mixed reality games as well as prebuilt robotics projects.

3. Worksheds

There are 30 two-hour workshops as well as 2 five-hour bootcamp available for participation for the event. The workshops are suitable for anyone from the age of 7 to 70, or as long as you have an interest in technology, art and media. One can sign-up through email and the workshop is free.

4. Arena+

Featuring an upsized Arena, the competition playfield provides elevated viewing for audience to view the competitions and cheer for their favourite team. This year, there will be two concurrent competition playfield available.

RC Tank Battlefield: In a simulated environment, RC Tanks are engaged in an infra-red strategic warfare in this battle of wits.

5. Hackathon

29 April 2017
FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Jr. launches its inaugural season at Tech Saturday as part of the Hackathon. It is co-organized by PIXEL Labs and complements the Code for Fun Enrichment Programme (done jointly by IMDA and MOE) offered to all MOE primary and secondary schools to increase s A total of 150 students will be taking part in the challenge. It is for kids aged 6-9 years old.

30 April 2017
National Coding Championship (NCC) is a coding competition done in esports fashion where participants write codes that control the artificial intelligence of their troops. It is for students aged 13-18 years old.

6. Lab on Wheels

Two “Labs on Wheels” buses will be showcasing:
– Workshops available for sign-ups, and
– Mobile fabrication style that has been converted into technology tinkering workspaces for participants to experiment them through play. Technologies such as virtual reality, social robots will be available.
