Calling all Star Wars Fan! Celebrate Star Wars Day at ArtScience Museum with an exuberant programme of activities over the weekend of 1 to 2 May! Catch a special presentation of film screenings (which will run till 30 May), fan art demonstrations, toy displays, and more. Due to limited capacity and slots are filling up fast, visitors should pre-book their Star Wars Day activities before visiting the Museum!

Join us on our virtual Collector’s Tour and get an exclusive look into the private collections of two avid Star Wars toy collectors Derek Ho and Phelan Kuek. These videos will be made available on ArtScience Museum’s YouTube channel on 29 April and 4 May.

About Jon Chan

Jon currently is a full-time lecturer at the Singapore Institute Of Technology. His first memory of Star Wars was when Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back first came out in 1980. Jon has a Master’s Degree in Fine Art and is still a fan who doodles Boba Fett.

Learn to take photos of your favourite Star Wars toys in everyday surroundings with prolific toy photographer Sunny Ang.

About Sunny Ang:

Sunny Ang has been a toy photographer for almost six years. He has shot toy photos for The LEGO Group, conducted toy photography workshops at Library@Orchard, Apple at Orchard and SAFRA. Sunny’s toy photos are instantly recognisable by their quirky and hilarious take on pop culture accompanied by his now iconic red quotes.

In 1976, during the hottest summer on record, Star Wars: A New Hope was shot in suburban North London. Nobody involved had any idea how big the film would become. Yet, for the extras and actors who played aliens, storm troopers, rebels and even Darth Vader – faces hidden beneath rubber masks, plastic helmets or heavy prosthetics – these seemingly insignificant jobs would go on to change their lives forever.

THX makes a harrowing attempt to escape from a world where thoughts are controlled, freedom is an impossibility and love is the ultimate crime. Developed from his student film Electronic Labyrinth: THX 1138 4EB, Lucas’ directorial debut has been cited as a key to understanding Star Wars and explores themes and motifs that seem almost universal to his work.

Acknowledged as a primary influence on George Lucas’ Star Wars, The Hidden Fortress sheds light on the roots of Star Wars’ cinematic vocabulary. A grand-scale adventure that only venerated director Akira Kurosawa could create, the film stars the inimitable Toshiro Mifune as a general charged with guarding his defeated clan’s princess, as the two smuggle royal treasure across hostile territory accompanied by two bumbling, conniving peasants.

From 7 May onwards, visitors will have even more time to explore and enjoy the great offerings at the Museum with the extended opening hours on Fridays and Saturdays till 10pm (with last admission at 9pm).
