Potty Training..Ashton just won’t poop on potty!

Date May 12, 2008

Potty training a toddler is really a challenging one.  I am training Ashton now and one year later, it would be Ashlyn’s turn to potty train.  I was once tempted to put Ashton in a day care so that I could leave the potty training to teachers.  But my girlfriend who works in a childcare told me that to train a toddler potty, parents need to work hand in hand with the teachers too.  So I drop the idea of sending him to the childcare and decide to embark the journey of potty training myself.

Ashton is able to tell me that he wants to pee now but still refuse to poo on potty.  I brought him out to shop for a potty and got home a really cool potty but still he refuse to use it.  Everytime, when he wants to poo, he would cry for diapers.

I search the net for solutions on that and I found that to train them to poo on potty, they must not be having constipation, which is what Ashton have.  I guess I need to get him to drink more fluids to solve this problem.

Do not force your toddler to potty train too and do not shame him if he doesn’t want to do that.

Here are some pointers that I have found:

  • Allow bowel movements in his diapers, but then empty her poop into the potty to show him where it goes.
  • Encourage him to sit on the potty and then cut a hole on the diaper that he is wearing to allow poo to fall into the diapers.
  • Give praises and rewards.
  • Read a story on going to the potty.
  • The second point looks interesting.  One day if I could get Ashton to sit on the potty, I might give that a try!
