Worry About Putting Baby In Infant Care

Need some assurance. I be putting my 7 month old baby to infant care. I'm worried because this is my 1st time. I'm afraid he can't adapt to the new environment but I don't have any other choices. For mommies who ever placed your babies in infant care, can you pls tell me what can be expected? Tq so much!" (

Nurul Syahida: i have not put my child in infant care and dun intend to. but i used to work as an infant caregiver. expect to be called wen child is sick. which normally happens often bcoz being in an infant care, the cycle continues. u must learn to trust the caregiver and also get to noe them and let them noe ur style of caring for ur child. u must noe tat an infant care is not a 1 to 1 style so expect a lot of independent time for ur child. like during pick up wen u see ur child playing without supervision it's not that case the whole day prolly juz for tat short period of time. raise ur concerns everytime u feel uneasy. they are not psychic to noe wat u r thinking. and also inform them on any allergies, style of sleeping and child's routine. hope it helps.

Colleen Ng: U must be prepared that he will fall sick. Its inevitable. But must believe that he will grow stronger cos his immunity will improve. Its always tough in the beginning, gotta grit your teeth thru it. After tt it will get easier. Make sure you know the teachers and find out or do small talks with teacher here and there to know how they are like. Find out their routines and how your baby reacts to the routines. Babies are hardy, they will adapt very easily. Mine was in in 9 mths... she grew fatter and stronger when she's inside. She enjoys the time there, but of cos there would be stuff you are not comfortable with, but as long as it does not compromise their safety, it should be good.

Pearlyn Ng: My bb went in since 5mths old. Hv to b able to endure bb getting sick pretty often for @ least 3-6mths or even longer cos they r bbs.

My gal was an easy-going one, v adaptable & easy to handle, hardly cry as told by teachers. Till now she's 19mths old & is still enjoying gng to cc everyday.

They learn alot of things - socialise, play, independence & etc. I am happy she's in there cos I dun think I will hv so much energy after work to entertain her.

    Gd!

Jessica Ang: My gal was in Infant care since 4 months, always fall sick.. but after 1 years old. her immue gets better, instead of 1 month 1 or 2 times sick. now 3 months, 1 time sick.
but 1 thing good about it is that my gal is very independent, etc. all taught from Infant.

Emily Lau: Jessica: do you bring your baby to doc everytime she fall sick? And what medicine does doc give? 1-2 times a month is pretty frequent. Am sending my son to IFC at 3.5 months. Very worried now seeing all the comments above.

Jessica Ang: Emily - everytime my gal is sick i will bring her to PD. but now as she gets older, after 1 maybe, I bring her to GP sometimes as through experiences, i know what medication is safe for my gal and what not to give. Usually GPs will give a lower dosage of medications as to compare to PDs. Eg, PD will prescript 2.5ml of Flu medication 2 times a days for my gal. But GP will prescript 2ml of the same medication for Morning but a lower strength flu medication for night.

There are limited medication for Babies below 1. It's better to bring your baby to PD when she is sick. They will handle better.

Emily Chua: I hav just sent my bb to infant care & she's 9 mths old. She down with running nose for 1 week but it cld b caught fr her older bro who also attends cc. Yes for the first year, be prepared for them falling sick as often as once a mth. They'll slowly build up their immunity.

Suku Wen: I sent my baby to IFC at 4mths. It is really unavoidable that they will sick easily for the first few months (be it flu, cough, fever, diarrhea etc) as there are many babies there and the viruses will pass to each other very easily. And have to be prepared that to receive call anytime during working hours from ifc to fetch your baby back home because as she/he is sick. And ofcoz, there are few days which ifc will close for their staff training/events whereby you have to make special arrangement (either take leave or ask someone take care) for those days.

Now my baby is one year old and still at ifc and will go directly to the toddler class when she turns 18mths. She loves to go to school everyday and enjoy playing/communicating with other babies at the center. They have activities everyday for the babies such as reading story, music, flashcards etc. It will be written on the communication book (between parent and teachers). I would believe that there is no worries for me when she go to toddler class as she already knew her classmates at infant care

Suku Wen: I think PD prescribes the amount of medicine to babies (not toddler) based on their weight instead of age ya

Sharon Goh: Right, you must be prepared that child will get sick often. I placed my child at 4th month at infant care centre & guess what? He caught HFMD in the centre and was warded in KKH. : (
If you do not have other caregiver in mind, then no choice have to put at infant care centre. Alternatively engage a private babysitter (auntie housewife type) to care for the child from her home.

Qiqi Low: I put my baby in infant care when she's 2 month plus, very early coz i need to go back to work. Heartache but no choice coz no caregiver n i prefer infant care then maid or nanny.
U must go down to the infant care to have a look have a talk with the teachers get to know their environment etc.
Put ur child one or 2 weeks early before u start work to let him get adapt to it and let the teacher n u have a feel of how is it like coz the teacher might call u the first few days. So if u put him earlier at least u no need to feel so stress when u go back to work.

Catherine Teo: both my kids were taken care of in an infant care centre since they were 3-mth old. i am thankful we have this service here and i personally feel more assured when they are at the hands of professionals rather than to stay at home with domestic help or nanny. imptly, check out the infant care centre to ensure cleanliness, good hygiene policies and procedures in place, and most impt, the kids and teachers are happy.

Pearlyn Ng: Mine was dwn w/ hfmd twice too. Bt such things r unavoidable. Getting sick is indirectly building up their immunity. Telling urself tat will make u feel better.
