cough in childrenQuestion: My 3 years old girl coughs quite often and whenever she cries, she will cough and vomit. Is this normal?

Answer: It is not uncommon for young children to vomit after a spell of coughing or crying. This is usually not a primary vomiting problem. If your child has a frequent or persistent cough problem, then the underlying cause of the problem needs to be addressed. The common causes of persistent or recurrent coughs in young children are usually frequent or serial viral infections related to childcare or school exposure, Allergic Rhinitis with post nasal drip syndrome, Bronchial Asthma or Gastro Oesophageal Reflux. See your doctor for further evaluation if the cough persists.
