You will find it hard to miss this Doraemon Christmas tree at One Raffles Place shopping mall. The tree is created entirely from hundreds of Doraemon plush toys, which is leading the wave of cartoon-inspired, kid-centric Christmas trees this season.

One Raffles Place shopping mall is bringing some family-oriented jolly cheer in the heart of the business district this festive season. Participate in activities such as guessing the number of plush toys used and sharing an image of the tree with your answer on Instagram with the hashtag #ORP. Shopping vouchers worth $100 and adorable Doraemon toys are up for grabs as prizes!

Over the weekends from 29th November, parents can entertain their young ones at One Raffles Place shopping mall at the Doraemon colouring booth. Completed colouring masterpieces can be exchanged for a small Doraemon plush toy, manga, or tumbler. Calling all kids and the young-at-heart: be captivated by IKEA soft toys as they turn into main characters in original tales, created especially by guest storytellers! On Dec 13 and 14, head down to IKEA Tampines and catch unique show-and-tell sessions featuring special guests – including local DJs Rosalyn Lee, Glenn Ong and The Flying Dutchman, acclaimed children’s book authors Adeline Foo of The Diary of Amos Lee series and Melanie Lee of The Adventures of Squirky the Alien, as well as journalist Clara Chow, whose works has appeared in The Straits Times and The South China Morning Post.

A first-of-its-kind event, “Christmas Stories at IKEA” is organised in conjunction with IKEA’s global Soft Toys for Education campaign, whereby the IKEA Foundation will donate €1 (S$1.65) to children’s education through UNICEF and Save the Children for every soft toy and children’s book purchased from now till Jan 3, 2015. Since 2003, the Soft Toys for Education campaign has supported 11 million children through 99 projects in 46 countries including Cambodia and Vietnam, and contributed €67 million to fund education projects worldwide.

Little Lit!

Singapore writers festival little lit
Little Lit! is the Festival’s free children’s programme that features a wide variety of interactive activities, from writing and craft workshops to storytelling and drama sessions. The 10-day event is one of the few literary festivals in the world that is multi-lingual, celebrating works in Singapore’s official languages – English, Malay, Chinese and Tamil.

This year’s edition also features more international best-selling children’s authors like Jacqueline Harvey, Sally Rippin, and Tone Almhjell together with Singaporean talents such as Adeline Foo, Stephanie Wong and our youngest featured author this year, twelve-year-old Amon Chua.

This 60-minute theatre presentation by Cake Theatrical Production consists of a 30-minute performance followed by a 30-minute craft workshop.

First Global IKEA Soft Toys Drawing Competition

IKEA is inviting children to co-create the next soft toys collection for its stores! In conjunction with the Soft Toys for Education campaign, kids can draw their dream toys in the inaugural global Soft Toys Drawing Competition, and get the chance to see their imagination come to life as real soft toys in IKEA stores!

20 unique drawings will then be shortlisted to represent IKEA Singapore in the global competition, where IKEA of Sweden will select the top ten drawings worldwide to transform into real soft toys for next year’s range. These winners will also get the chance to pick out gifts for IKEA Singapore’s children beneficiaries from Food From The Heart.

Entries can be submitted at both IKEA stores and all participants will receive a diploma and souvenir badge – 50 winning drawings will be selected for public exhibition and voting from Dec 1 – 7.
